24 - The Meta Budget



That 4 way tie at the end of the week is kinda tough to resolve, so I left it to the RNG. Hope you guys don't mind.



I'm just going to sleep half the Monday off, I'm no good for classes or the election like this. I set the alarm clock just before lunch hour for that campaign meeting with Prof. Jerkface before dropping the giant folder on my table. I'm off to dreamland. Zzzzzzzz.



Later...

I arrive in the empty conference room and take a seat, spreading out the folder's worth of papers in front of me. The elections are held on Friday afternoon. Before then, I have to decide on a campaign slogan, do promotions, and write a speech to convince people to vote for me. That's so much to do in such a short time!

I'm still not entirely sure what the class treasurer does. Usually, that means organizing fundraisers, but I haven't heard about any of these here yet. Anyway, most fundraiser money comes from parents, but since this is a boarding school, our parents aren't here to get money from!

Maybe that's the point - maybe as the treasurer I'm supposed to think of some creative ways to get around the problems with raising money for a tiny school that's kind of isolated. Or maybe I should just read the giant folder instead of making random guess works. Oh well, here goes- Hmm, someone's coming.

First things first; you need a campaign slogan. Something to set you apart from Jacob and tell people why they should vote for you.
Yeah, I think I got a slogan ready.
Well here's what you're up against: Jacob's campaigning on charm, wealth, and family status; you don't have that.

What?! Since when those two qualities even matter for a Treasurer position? Rich people won't steal or corrupt?

But all his 'charms' don't necessarily make him likable. You want to give people the idea that he's flash and you're substance, that you can do the job and they should trust you with their money.
Kinda like Obama vs Romney huh.

Because the timeframe for elections is so short, the school provides the marketing materials. All we have to do is give them an order an the basic outlines.

You absolutely want at least posters or badges. That's the basics. That reminds everyone who's running. Badges are probably better. People find it fun to collect them, so they'll naturally help spread them around.

You can give away food. Everyone likes free food. But then it's gone and they may not even remember who gave it to them.

The next day...

The materials arrive. I have a stack of six posters, we'll need to find some places around campus to tape these up. Yeah, I know it's too little but it's $5. I also have a collection of green paper horse carriages, each with "RK 47 for Treasurer" written on them in gold ink, and straight pins for fastening them to robes. Somehow looking at them doesn't invoke any confidence within me. Oh well, at least I tried.

No we'll just have to find somewhere high traffic to hand these out. Good thing I have my roomies helping out.

This is a good way to get my name out there, but it's tiring and boring. Stress +5, reminds me of my part time job passing away leaflets in the morning. Then it's time for class.

On Wednesday morning, campaigning is in full swing. All the candidates - not just in my year, but the upperclassmen too - have taken up positions on the main quad, calling out to everyone who passes and handing them colorful bits of paper.



I'm doing my best to make myself heard among the crowd, but it's hard work. William is with me, lending his voice and his height is definitely helping. Also, he remembers the names of all the freshmen, and they always seem pleased to have him single them out. Male or female, a lot of people admire William. I shudder when I imagine Jerkface standing beside me for my campaign, I doubt anyone wants to approach me or even cast a look.

Then it's off to class.

Thursday, we have a 'cool down period.' Great. I wouldn't be able to take another day of campaigning in the heat. They should really just open up a LAN cafe in the school and let us post in discussion forums or whatever.

Friday is the big day.

I never paid much attention during class, eager to get away and prepare for my speech but I gained 1 black magic point anyway. When it's time for the classes to end, I rushed off to the gym hall for the pre-election speech. I came in earlier to watch the end of the sophomore campaigns, hoping for some inspiration. I have a slightly better idea of what kinds of things to say, but they all have pros and cons...

First up are the candidates for the Freshman Class President.



No way I can ever beat this chick.



Oh, and apparently the Spirits made her do it. She's not sure which ones. I can hear the golf claps for her. Poor girl. After that comes presentations for the treasurer candidates.



Everyone claps, and some guy even hoots in approval. When they called my name, I'm a little rattled. I haven't even come up with a speech yet. I've got to think fast. Some sentences from the sophomores got stuck in my head, but I'm not sure which one I should pick... Just focus on the ideas. There's three sets. Which one should I go for?





I wonder if Commander Shepard ever have this sort of problem.

Remember, just three things to declare:
- My aim as the Treasurer
- How I'm going to carry out my duty
- And my best quality

Your eyes are too angular, your body lacks curves, your hair is a disaster and you could do with some sunlight.
Minnie can kinda get away with the skin tone 'cause of her fabulous hair being a lighter shade. When your hair is all black, the hair/skin contrast of a basement dweller is more appearent.

Mark my words: Boys will be fighting over Minnie before the year is out!
