29 - A little bit of colors




There we go.



Now the week has just started! I wake up the next day feeling completely refreshed and ready for whatever class I'm taking. When I arrive for the White Magic class, I find Prof. Potsdam standing by the chalkboard. Great teacher. I'm comfortable enough already.


Morning, Prof. Postdam.
You'll need to sit down before we can start, but take your time. Relax. Get comfortable. That's very important when working with this particular style of magic.

Taking her at her word, I yawn and stretch before I settle into my seat.

To some people, white is the absence of color, a blank canvas. In the non-magical word, white is a complete spectrum, all colors combined into one. In some ways, you could think of White Magic as either of these things. White Magic is the tool you use to access the spiritual realm.

Surely she's not talking about -

Ghosts. Dreams. Creatures from other planes. The thoughts of those around you. With White Magic you can experience and communicate with things that are normally hidden.

Summoning? Mind reading? That's pretty useful. Darn, why didn't I take this class earlier?

There is one thing I need to warn you about: Some people have tried to use White Magic to control minds and spirits instead of asking for their aid.

What sort of warning is that? Does she mean that it won't work, or that we'll be expelled, or arrested, or our brains will melt or what? Maybe she'll tell us more later...






Wow, this week moved on pretty quickly. The lack of activity sure does make time flow so much faster. And before I know it; I'm done with Friday class. What a relief! I return to my room for a well-deserved rest. That's when I hear a knock on the door. Who could it be?



Oh, it's just Cockram.

Hmm. Duty calls?

I'm just making the rounds to invite everyone to the Saturday study sessions. If you need help with any of your classes, I'll be available in the library on Saturdays.

What? Just you? Alone? What are you? Some kind of charitable soul with good looks? Don't you have work to do as the President?

She hurries off. Man, compared to my job, I think she gets it easy. And all those flower bouquets. What does she have that I don't? Bah! Way to ruin my mood.

The next day...

It's Saturday Morning, I get up terribly early and deliver the mail and the the allowances like a zombie. Then I crawl back to my bed and sleep a few more hours with the five dollar bill clenched in my fist. Zzz. Cockram gets it easy.

Finally, I wake up and have to decide on how to spend my Saturday noon.



With just $20 in my wallet, I suppose another study session is in order?

Minnie is pretty imba, she ups your smarts AND gives a point in one of lower magics you have. Study, and if an option, with her.

 

30 - Now I know my ABC

Compared to the rest of the school, the library is fairly small and unimpressive. There's a slightly outdated set of encyclopedias and a good collection of foreign language dictionaries, plus two bookcases filled with books about magic and witch history.

Most of the rest looks like fiction, with a rack of 'popular' magazines. I guess even witches need to keep up to date with celeb gossip. No sign of a computer. All hope is lost. There aren't that many people in here on a Saturday, but looking around I see...

No sign of her fanboys. Oh well.



Might as well give it a shot. Minnie's pretty smart, she even identified my weakest area and gave me pointers on how to improve on it, like Green Magic, a class I never attended.



That wasn't so bad. And that's the end of the week for me.



A really fast-moving week it was. Let's see what next week has in store for us.

I hope knowing basic green magic qualifies as having 'experimented' in all schools to Prof. Potsdam. Not gonna sit for detention again for this one.

Well, I'm pretty sure we'll be in the dungeons, 'cause pretty much all the exams are. But I don't know what they're gonna make us do.

William said that after the first time we have to cast real spells we've learned in class, so we can't just fake it with wild magic.

Hmm. So we'd better know enough spells. I better set this week's schedule with that in mind.

First two to get some more experience on those, in HOPE that we might learn some spells or avoid detention.
Black to reach 20. might learn some new spells
Then white to raise it, since it's at 4. We might learn some new spells

 

1 Black, 1 White, 3 Green or Red - what RK feels is more cute or will give her and edge when she'll get a job at Alpha Protocol 2

I definately think we want 20 black for a spell. So better double-tap for when miss RK inevitably messes up and fails to learn something.

31 - Trial Run

Sorry, Mrowak, your vote came in after I started doing the playthrough.




I'll do Black Magic first, then finish off the week with four White Magic classes. Hopefully, that would prepare me for the test.




This is too useful to be ignored, I bet. I mean...seriously? Do locks come with magical resistance nowadays?




Hm. Spirits magic. I think I'm starting to see the pattern.




Now we're getting somewhere.



And finally, last class before the exam...



Maybe this would be useful when conversing with a foreign language or something, I'm not quite clear on what this spell actually does. I grab my book and get ready for the test. Let's hope this works out...



Funny, no one's here to guide me. Am I supposed to wait here forever?

That was trippy.



I half expected a giant floating red head to be mocking me right about now, gloating about how he'd take over Earth while I'm stuck here in the dungeon. Oh well, RPG Mode: Switch On! I start humming that ever familiar tune as I study my surroundings.





Looks like I'm standing before a deep, dark abyss. No way across. Well, I could jump. But ...no. That's not what a witch would do. Let's explore before flinging spells. I turn around from where I'm facing.



Looks like a path leading to the left that bends left again...



Hmm... a stone bridge. Too heavy for me to lift. I move forward past it. The walls greeted me. There's something written here.



Gee, thanks for the hint. I return to the chasm and flip open my magical diary. The answer is goddamn obvious.



As I invoke the incantation and gestures... I start to envision the place, just..beyond the abyss...where I want to get...across.



No. It's too dark. I can't. I cancel the spell before it wastes my magical energy. Hmm...what to do?



Should I risk it? No. I shouldn't. Even if I make the jump, I'm not using magic, which is the whole point of this exam.



I'm a little bit lost. I need a hint. Maybe there's something magical here. An invisible switch, a trigger, anything. I invoke the detect charm spell focusing on my surroundings, trying to get a feel for anything magical in the area.



Nothing. Blast. In desperation, I examine the pile of stones, but there's nothing underneath it. I'm not thinking this right. Looking back, the stone bridge could be the answer but... how do I get it...over...unless... OF COURSE!



You're my way out of here.



Time to move.



This better work... I willed the stair to be elsewhere. Focusing the image of it over the chasm. It worked. The stone bridge disappeared. It must be where I wanted it to be.



Yes! I made it past the chasm, up the stairs and emerge from the dungeon, right into sunlight.

Well, yeah. But it was too short, man. Or maybe it was meant to be, cause my magical reserves were more than half depleted by the time I made it out of there.

Hmm... Depends on what wand we want really. If we want the $50 star wand eventually we should probably STUDY and save up. Otherwise, go to the mall and buy the regular wand.

Also, that's all there is to the dungeons they teased with in the trailer?
Looks like I didn't miss out on anything after all.
