What do you mean theres no point in rushing? 6 extra gems and 50-80% extra income is nothing? Its game winning.

I said usually. Haven't you seen enough players who fucked up their whole session because of failed rush? Well, lucky you.

(most nations don't have the means of fast besieging early on, that leads to long sieges and slow expansion if you rush; your opponent might have an awaken pretender too; etc, etc)

Just to be clear: RUSH means going STRAIGHT for enemy capital from turn 1.

The beauty of Dominions is that it's incredibly easy to fuck up.

If I won't make it in time, then my vote goes for Glory of the Gods MP version.

We have waited quite a bit, why we should not wait a bit longer to properly employ the map you have worked upon?

I don't know anything about Dominions mapmaking, but your efforts are worthy of praise :salute: (well, I know that the value of the praise of random Net retards is nil, but better than nothing, nah? ).

To entertain us Raw could give us the list and the final ruleset, mods and list of Nations, so the insane theorycrafters can enjoy themselves. UW expanded is in, right?

This will be an insane clusterfuck. 18 players. I fear I will find even Ea R'lyeh!

    BREAKING UPDATE!

    I finished graphical edit.

The only slight difference from what I've mentioned before is in three capitals. Starting points are the same, but EVERY land capital is either "farm" or "plains" type of terrain (previously I marked three capitals as forest/mt. types - my mistake).

Since I had to add a couple of provinces, I'll need to redifine the borders. It's actually quite simple, but requires throughly compare new borders with original ones (map editor messes them up sometimes). So, redifining borders, careful comparig, quick test, and it's good. I'll upload it to some file hoster for all Codexers, and to llamaserver, so raw will be able to use this map as the hoster of pbem. If he chooses to.

But since I'm old and lazy, I require a good sleep first. Final version is coming within next 12 hours.

Nothing universally true. It's mostly only a problem if you have saildistance of 2 (which this map has though) and good geography to exploit that. Against UW nations other than LA Rlyeh it's not really an issue, if they want to beeline for your capital, just patrol it and you're done. (Also a way to get the game to place coastal nations on the coasts, is to assign not Start spots, but assign everything other than the start spots as non-starts instead)

But there doesn't seem to be a problem with your assignments, there's just one start that doesn't have a coastal province next to it, in the center of the eastern continent, but that's a ridiculously good start spot overall, with the huge amount of area they get to have p. uncontested.

It can accomodate more nations just fine, just fiddle around with the start spots a little. It's still got a healthy number of non-water, non-cave provinces for 18, 19 land nations. In fact your version with the added mountain ranges etc seems extraordinarily sheltered for many starts, much more than most maps, but then that's not really a bad thing. Though if raw wanted to have a map with more early contact than usual then this is going in the other direction. Matter of fact is that it's a big map for 17 land players with your additions.

Going for 5=< distances between caps is nice (going for 4=< is just as, if not more common, but that's a good principle), but it can be bad when some starts have only one enemy within 5 provinces (and possibly just a single route that fast), then you have kinda nothing to fear early.

Looking through it quickly, three kinda glaring easy to fix things from your changes come to eye, see below image:

    Show Spoiler

    1. Remove the impassable mountain here to compensate for the mountain you added. So the 2 once-close capitals have some connection still.

    2. Having that whole peninsula be without water connection is kinda weird. Open up the waste to connect to either of the seas. Or the plain and sea on the other side of the cap.

    3. Same as 2, could use a new connection here in the removed one's stead.

    4. Open up another route through the mountain range, that doesnt give a fast route from cap to cap. As is all traffic between the 2 caps there has to go through a single province, hardly interesting.

And cmon, stop talking down the original map maker for being an idiot with the start spot assignment, when they were made for a disciples game.

At least back in 2, Rushing was kind of a dangerous game to play, one which almost inevitably resulted in one or both players being knocked out of the running. In order to effectively rush, you pretty much have to crush and dominate that other player easily. Even given known starting positions, you do not know *WHO* occupies those positions, and therefore, who is to be rushed if you know which players are weak. To rush, therefore, requires that you know have knowledge of which players are weak and can be rushed easily, and where they are. This is rarely something you plan from the outset because it's hard to predict who is weak from the outset, and know that they are your neighbors. If you end up having to bleed for your rush, it's likely you will have knocked yourself out of the running, win or lose.

Successfully defended my T'ien Ch'i in two battle picks.

Off to a good start, I guess.
Or I just spent all my luck on a nation pick instead of the actual game.. oh, well.
