Kind of reminds me of how Jay Sherman, from the cartoon "The Critic", said the whole "If the movie stinks, don't go" speech. That was back in 1994. Why is not contributing to the decline such a revelation?

No, the worst thing is that shitty developers get paid for making an awful game.

I've been preaching this for years as well, but TB has a large audience, so hopefully a portion of them will learn something from TB's occasional bro-tier lectures. I don't particularly like TB, but anti-decline messages are welcome regardless of the source.

He's preaching to a brick wall. These people don't even know they're eating shit. They see something that looks vaguely like a Xenomorph, shooting, and marines, and they'll happily guzzle down the crap and claim it's caviar.

tuluse is probably right. Many modern gamers genuinely enjoy modern stuff/crap stuff. I'm also not sure if Total Biscuit out of all people is the one who should criticize and decide which is a shit game.

Actually, this new fad of talking smack about modern games is just hilarious. When a site like Kotaku tells me that Alien Colonial Marines (which from what I've seen, it's generic shooter with sub-par graphics - like Call of Duty and everything else that won awards before it) something is seriously fishy.
I'm sorry but fuck this noise. Half Life 2 gets to be considered almost universally the best video game of the 2000s. Skyrim is considered the best TES game by people who haven't played a TES game before. Spec Ops the Line is considered a masterpiece of art and storytelling. I'm just concluding that most video games fans don't know shit about quality. A crash of the industry won't solve the fact that gamers lack good tastes.

Nah, its ego protecting itself from being wrong/ridiculed.

Much easier to go insane and start claiming crap is good then to admit being wrong or dumb sucker.

I think those Dexers calling for an industry wide crash are just hoping there will be an interim period in which there are a lot of medium sized developers and publishers releasing games because that might be more conducive to the production of some quality games. Perhaps we might have a period where more diverse games are being produced before the publishing machine comes back in full swing. In reality, we would probably just have a couple lean years where all the smaller talented development studios die leaving us with the worst detritus of the large publishers who would then hedge their bets by producing even more formulaic games in only the most popular genres in an effort to mitigate risk.

in after edgy Codexer implies that all non-Codexian games are shit anyway, so why even bother to distinguish between them

To be honest, as much as I dislike TB, he's one of the few people that has an audience that is both very large and very uninformed. If anyone can make people change their idiotic patterns on the market of computer games, he can. Not saying he'll reverse the developments, but he's certainly part of the cooking stew of public opinion here. I think you're too pessimistic here. The Dorito-scandal had effect, this will too, and hopefully it will all be part of some fashion of turn in the industry. It remains to be seen.

What's happening here is that the vast audience that entered the gaming market in 2003-2008 is starting to mature, and some of them are realizing that they're being fed shit. And unlike previous generations, there is no vast new and larger audience to sweep them away.

(Casual, social and mobile gaming were supposed to do that, but it hasn't really been working out)

These people aren't Codexers or super-monocled-hardcore gamers, and the vast majority of them never will be, but they are slightly more discerning than they were five years ago, and that can only mean good things.

How about not pre-ordering AT ALL? I dont really see reasons for pre-ordering stuff. Even the best devs can and will often disappoint, games tend to come out unfinished and buggy, you cant rely on previews and hype...

Pre-ordering seems like a vote of confidence in industry that is cheating you right and left. Dont do it, just dont.

Also dont buy shit games. There, incline.

Reviewers and critics becoming more harsher just come across as weird to me. Just last year, they have no problem giving games like Mass Effect 3 and Diablo 3 10s & 9s, now all of a sudden games like RE6 is decline and COD is not on list of GoTY contenders for the VGAs? It doesn't feel like they gradually matured, more like they are fishing for KKKs (only except not from the Codex).
