When he told her that aeroplanes had been in existence before he was born and long before the Revolution, the fact struck her as totally uninteresting. After all, what did it matter who had invented aeroplanes?

If you understand how what they played before effects their judgment though then surely you must also understand that they won't go back in time and therefore can't pretend Oblivion wasn't their eye-opening experience.

Indeed, Oblivion was their "eye-opening experience." I said I understand why they were impressed. But one can be that without making declarative statements that it offers something that has never been done before when one doesn't know what has been done before. I don't care if they think it's 9.5, but definitive GOAT statements or making shit up because they are uninformed is another matter. Or in the case of some reviewers, making shit up to make a sale for Zenimax or pwesents.

I suppose. I think it's plain old ignorance though, not really manufactured sculpture of opinion. Oblivion introduced a TON of people to that kind of game and those people aren't interested in understanding what came before or justifying their statements about it being the freshest shit ever. They are completely apathetic.

I'm not really defending them or bashing them, I am simply trying to look at it as reality.

It is just good old ignorance for the most part. I don't really care what a person feels about a game, or if I think something is shit and they love it. They can blind pre-order and deal with their choices and consequences. *consumerismistruerpg*

But when it starts influencing who gets sales and who doesn't, or what gets made, or whether a series gets deeper or shallower, I then have a problem.

Anyone that's ever pre-ordered a game should promptly put a shotgun in their mouth and give themselves a JFK haircut.

Based on my knowledge of the JFK assassination and the projectile properties of a shotgun, I can conclude that this is quite impossible.

Unless you know something about the JFK assassination that you would like to share with the rest of the world, maybe?

I'm preordering everything that is from Obsidian. But that's just because I'm a fanboy. Also, they haven't disappointed me yet.

But that's the point. How can they disappoint you, if you have already committed yourself financially? You're not going to say that their games suck, because you would have to acknowledge to have made a mistake. Only very few people on this earth are able to acknowledge mistakes.

Oblivion was the last game I ever preordered cause after a few weeks of playing, I noticed what a huge disappointment it was and learned not to trust hype anymore.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one on the 'dex.

I know that's what TB said in his video. But the thing is, I really enjoy their games. I don't have to convince myself that I didn't make a mistake, because I don't feel like I did one. And what's the difference between pre-ordering the game and buying it day 1 for sure? I will acknowledge if I make a mistake with games. For example I acknowledge that I made a mistake with Strike Suit Zero, a kickstarter I backed. The game not bad, but I was dissapointed by it.

SearchEngine - I always know what to expect from their games, and this was the case with DS3. I knew that it is a hack&slash, and light on the RPG department. But it had solid gameplay. I wasn't disappointed.

Yeah and that's where the line starts to blur between an honest opinion and advanced stockholm syndrome. Statistically, the chance that you suffer from SS is 27%. That is quite high. I am sorry but I hope you understand that I can't bet what you say against such enormous odds.

You can't really know that. It can be both ways. But according to your statistics, there is a bigger chance that I honestly like their games.

Yes, but the chance that your opinion is trustworthy and not clouded by SS is only 73%. Basically 1 out of 4. That's even worse than playing Russian Roulette. I wouldn't consider someone trustworthy up into well above 90%.
