Is it? I've haven't been following the pro scene a lot, but it seems pretty standard in pubs

Alway love seeing balanar in a pro match. Here's hoping secret wins, I don't really like them but they are my only hope to defeat EG and the "USA USA" chanting dudes

Game 1 was really really weird. CTY shouldnt have come back like that in the first place, all of the sudden he was sitting on a 11 charge bloodstone. Then the most demoralising thing ever hapens:

Cty drops his bloodstone to pick up a gem, gets charged and stunned by the SB who even has an empty slot, and zai missclicks the bloodstone twice until CTY can pick it up with the courier. If Zai stays cool there, the game is just over. :M Zai looked really goddamn demoralised after the game, coming in and out of the booth. Hopefully they can pull it together for a decent game 2/3.

The mental aspect is indeed very important in a high stress situacion like this, and it shows

    Secret played like shit.
And by the way, the arena looks pretty empty, they even had to do the "zoom in the crowd to look like there's more people" trick

only 50% of the people attending are in the arena. theres lots of monitors in the arenn and a big one outside with lots of attendees watching.

Why would they do that? Sorry if that's a retarded question, it just looks terrible for the dota scene when in the biggest tourney of the game, half the seats are empty.
BTW, that dude looked pretty chill

because the weathers nice and key arena is kinda stuffy and there is no wifi and bad internet signal. People are just taking advantage of valve renting out the entire area including the park outside.

Theres also a gigantic 1000 person line outside for the na'vi signings today.

Are you suggesting they should chain everybody that bought a ticket to their arena seats for the duration of the tournament?

I don't think Valve or the DotA scene really give a fuck how it looks from the outside. That's kind of core to the whole phenomenon, and you can see that in the interviews with all the players talking about trying to convince their parents that they can be professional video game players.

I'd guess they do, since they gotta compete with LoL and it's hordes of rabbid fans

I think we're way past either game having to compete with the other.

Well, I stand corrected then, though I still feel that two very popular games of the same genre would end up competing with each other

Well, WC3 didnt have to compete with Brood War, CS didnt have to compete with Quake, as long as the games provide a seizable different focus (micro vs macro in the former example, 5v5 vs 1v1 in the latter), there's no need for competition. Despite a lot of people calling the games similar, LoL and DotA are very very different games. DotA is way more strategic, with a lot of games starting with a team having the advantage simply because of the draft, while LoL is way more demanding when it comes to technical/mechanical skill. Why not enjoy both? :) (I personally don't enjoy LoL, but thats because game complexity is key for me and competitive LoL has little to none, but that's just me)

Fair point. I myself tried to play LoL when it came out, but I had played dota for about 6-7 years before that, so it just felt too simple to me

Same for me actually, I just dont find "streamlined" games very appealing. Thats why I prefer DotA over LoL/HotS, Path of Exile over Diablo 3, and many older games over their "newer" counterparts. I can understand the appeal of games being less complex and confusing, it's just not my thing. In a multiplayer game this isn't necessarily a bad thing, for RPGs on the other hand... Well, we're all on the 'dex for a reason. ;)

Back to TI5: Fun to watch, although riddled with misplays. Chasing the TA right before the end, dying on 2 additional cores for absolutely no reason... Seemed like they lost their temper which is not too surprising looking at the youngest team in the tournament. Resolution calling gg after that last WD kill and instantly leaving the game while the rest of his team doesnt call gg at all... Here we go again.

No support is safe when TA gets fat.
