You'll probably be getting ready for a second playthrough of PST by the time another person would be nearly done with DQ7's prologue.
That sounds pretty impressive. I remember that DQ8 was pretty long but it looks 7 is even longer?

Looks like producer of recent Dragon Quest game would want to localize remake of 7 but it would take whole year.

No time like the present to get started then...

If they'd started it already, they might have been able to set up some cross-promotion with Bravely Second. Some sort of discount if you pre-order both, or perhaps a bit of special content in both games that is unlocked by the other.

I do think that we'll see it at some point, although it sounds like it will be later rather than sooner. Bravely Default was in many ways a throwback to the SNES era Final Fantasy games and it was very successful here. One would think that DQ7 would appeal to a large number of people who enjoyed Bravely Default.

Who here has experience with Dragon Quest 8 skill builds?
Get whips for Jessica, Twin Dragon Lash scales insanely as you get further and further in the game, especially with the whip you can get in the casino if you plan to abuse that. Yangus's fists are pretty good too iirc, but nowhere near as good as Jessica's whips. For Hero, Courage is probably the best skill overall, the boosts you get from it are insane lmao! Insane! And yeah Thunder Thrust and Executioner are essential. As for Angelo, buy hmmm, hmmmm, buy uhhh. Buy whatever. All of his skills are shit.

OracleX Nihnoz was thinking about going swords on Hero for Falcon Slash/ Metal Slash and going swords on Angelo for Metal Slash. Is spear really that much better for metal slime hunting?

I did the same at first, but late game (without spoilers anything) metal slash isnt that useful anymore.

So then that leaves Falcon Slash from swords competing against everything else in spears.
Swords is probably better than spears overall once you reach the point where you have thunder thrust. By lategame you have plenty of skillpoints so it's not too important to ration 'em.

Then there is the Uber Falcon Sword which is an upgraded version of the Falcon Sword. You need the Falcon Sword and Meteorite bracers to craft it.

Right. Is it worth using a bracer for the Uber version?

I think I'm gonna drop swords/booms/fists and go spears then courage. I finally managed to do some Metal Slime hunting and Yangus was killing over half of them alone. At the cost of solid multi-hit skills I think it's worth it.

There's something satisfying about killing metal slimes and then almost always leveling someone up.

I had Yangus go maces the first time through. Bleh.

Axe all the way. Helm Splitter is amazing for regular encounters and bosses, and yeah, axes destroy metal slimes as well.

Just reiterating on what was said before about Dragon Warrior (quest) Monsters.

It's basically a more complex and interesting version of pokemon that takes place in a world so cozy that it looks like it was taken directly out of a maurice sendak book. (The game takes place in a kingdom that's literally a giant tree) absolutely magic game. Of course, I fell in love with it when I was quite young - might be harder for a hardened codexian adult to find the same appeal.

As for actual Dragon Quest, I am starting to get into it with the DS remake of 4. I know the PSX remake is considered better, but sitting in bed with my DS playing that game is obscenely relaxing and comfortable. After I finish it, if I'm not worn out of DQ, I will likely play the 3 on SNES translated, then go to 5 on PS2 translated.

One downside is that the monsters in DQM are interchangeable. Everyone is able to reach 999 in every stat and have the best moves, in theory.

The grindy aspect was alleviated as the series marched on. I have DQM on my tablet right now, I gain levels relatively fast.

Wait, how does that work? In DQM1 you need specific lineages to gather the skills you want and reach stat caps... unless there's something I forgot or am missing here.

It seems that I was wrong, shittier monsters with lower stat gains will perform worse at their peak, even if descended from badasses. Then again at that point the differences are between being punched by an angry god and punched by a slight less angry god.

Hmmm... like I said it's been a very long time, but for some reason I have the feeling that shittier monsters won't be able to clear the Starry Night Tournament - and if they can, they would have pretty much no hope of beating the Master Tamer Battle. Then again, that could just be years of being detached from the game overhyping those battles' difficulties.

Decided to try playing through the whole series myself. So far I seem to be around 1/3 to 1/2 way through the first game (I have the harp, warriors ring, sunstones, magic flute and a general idea of what to do from here) and have been enjoying it a fair bit. The freedom to just wander around and get my ass kicked or find places earlier than intended is refreshing. Hopefully the series stays this way for a while, I've no doubt that sooner or later it'll become plot heavy and stuck on the railroad.
