    Just spotted over at rpgdot:
    http://www.rpgdot.com/#36576

So, new (final) applications for beta testers as well as consideration of applications from the last beta tester call (what? didn't they get enough?).

I'm no crpg development expert (my field lies elsewhere), but this seems kinda late in the piece considering the release is next month. Maybe there will be only incredibly minor things to address; maybe things are further along than the recent previews suggested; maybe its beta testing is gonna be rushed and the final product will be buggy? (my money is on the last)

The public beta could just be more of an advertising scheme than a way to fix bugs before release. They might be considering either holding it back if it is a buggy heap or releasing a patch soon after to fix bugs found in this late beta.

Well, if it is a buggy heap, I hope they do hold it back rather than foist it upon us and then release a patch later
I'm sick of rushed releases (bad, bad publishers :( ). I can wait a few months for virtually any release if it means a bit more polish. Its just when it spins out to delay upon delay that I get mad.

I was gonna sign up to be a beta tester, but then I realised I woudn't have the time to do it justice :(

Edit: fuck it, I signed up anyway. Cross fingers.

Here instead of playing an RPG.
I think this "signup" is merely an open invitation to join a marketing contact list that will be sold and resold, giving all kinds of researchers, gaming companies and various other organizations (and identity thieves) your personal information and system specs. Maybe burglars buy the lists.

It's kind of like saying, I drive a BMW and live at 123 Front Street in Suburbia, Michigan. Here's my phone number even!

You've got to ask yourself, is it an Orwellian conspiracy, or is Dungeon Snores really worth it? It's tempting - you get to play a (hold your breath) "demi-goth" race. (It's only "demi" goth so it also appeals to the mainstream.)

I think it's just a buggy early demo, and they're suckering you into giving up market research data by calling it a beta. Public relations and marketing is about perception, and presentation frames perception. If they're not doing market analysis with this, they're just not much of a company.

Call me cynical. It would be true.

Dude you dont supply them your real phone number or address. They dont really care about those anyway, you think they are gonna make a couple of hundred calls all over the world just to get beta testers? And they sure as hell wont come knockin on your door when they can just send you an email and deliver the beta client to you through a torrent. Just write some random numbers in the address and phone field :D

    @PennyAnte: errr....hokaaaay...

There are ways of protecting yourself from that stuff...

Well, I'm sure there are people on this board who have actually done some beta-testing.
I'm pretty certain this is a pretty standard way of getting people involved in it (i.e. signing up online), but not having personally done so before I don't know 100% if you are being a dick or not.

He's not insulting you, he's just being cynical, and he has good reason to be if you consider how companies usually treat customer details (caller ID, loyalty cards, etc.). It's up to you if you consider it worthwhile or if you just avoid it. He's only warning people to be careful, which they should be.

If you fill in the beta form with lies, then there's no problem anyway. :D

    Haha, yep

However, given that my "real" name and contact details (at least, for work) are publically available on the internet anyway...I'm not certain it matters.
