The score is a rather low 2.4 out of 10 with this backing up that score:

Dungeon Lords is an action RPG like IceWindDale, yet without its polish, excitement, scope or variety. It actually showed promise at the very beginning, but soon after the first few battles and quests I noticed a severe lack of interest on my part. The problem was that not a single aspect of the game impressed me or held my attention in any way.

Well, the box art is cool.

Gods, that game sucked. It's really kind of sad.

I liked the DL demo (there were a few dialogs), but that's the thing with demos
- sometimes you can't tell if the full game is going to be more interesting or
whether the initial window-dressing gives way to tedium.

Just out of interest Saint, what is that lumpkin in your avatar?

It's Teh Lumpkin of all lumpkins. Head on here and get your hands on Geneforge right away. If you're not a graphix whore then you'll in for some of the finest RPGing around. For more info look into the Codex review here.

I liked Geneforge 2 better than 1. The first is my least favorite, too many "Go there, kill the foozle" kind of quests. Geneforge 3 was fun, but not the best.

The problem is really that the game has small peaks and major (long) troughs, not that it goes downhill from the beginning.
There will be mildly enjoyable dungeon bash parts, with the ocasional nice puzzly thing, and these are separated by huge areas of emptiness and boredom. For example, parts of the serpent d00ds temple (I forget their name) that you have to go to later on are quite enjoyable, but there is massive wandering and boredom before and after.

The test is whether you can handle the interminable boredom to get to the "good bits" (which are even then only mildly good). Most give up.

I've been playing Geneforge 3 - it's not bad at all. Last thing I did before
finishing up for today's sesh was to meet the shade in the crystal caves.

I don't get why the programmer didn't allow you to increase the screen resolution
above 800x600 (perhaps by using a border or extra 2D panels). The existing
graphics would look a lot better in 1024x768. I might try turning on the antialiasing
mode on the graphics card to see if it softens the jaggies. The summons look cute,
especially on the title screen - wriggling around and fading in and out of existence.

By the way, has anyone seen a similarity between the glyph on the back of your
robes (if you play Shaper) and a yellow radioactivity symbol? Looks like a nod at Fallout.
