EA-Origin jumps on the Kickstarter bandwagon

EA continuing their proud indie tradition,after the EA Indie bundle,now decided to distribute through Origin any game that was succesfully crowdfunded for free for the first 90 days.

Brian Fargo and Jane Jensen already jumped on board

And the Codex rejoiced....

 

That's how making bets works folks: sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and sometimes you lose terribly.

Sounds like there's no issue, Fargo's just increasing the number of services where he can sell the game. It'd be funny if people still didn't buy it on Origin though.

Either EA is baiting some independent devs into a trap in the hopes of doing to them the same they did to Origin and Bullfrog to kill this niche indirect competition while they can, desperate or most likely both.

Although overused and old, the "IT IS A TRAP" is perfect for this one.

Well, it's basically the use of the Origin platform for a few months and, I guess, if they like the sales they get they can negotiate a percentage contract. Wasteland 2 is already going to be released on Steam (at least isn't the beta going to use it) -- I'm assuming Fargo has some sort of relationship with Valve.

 

Why would anyone buy it through Steam or Origin or anything else when there's gonna be a DRM-free version?

 

If it goes on a -50% sale or something...

 

Did you miss the post in Best Thread Ever where that guy refuses to buy anything DRM-free?

Well "evil publishers" is just a bullshit made up by the failing devs. If "evil publishers" are what made your games shit indeed - then why are your games on kickstarter are just as casual and primitive as the games you made under "evil publisher"?

No wonder EA jumps on the bandwagon when all kickstarter games are no different from what EA sells.

Of course the 'win' part here is that the dev can get the game funded by a bunch of brainwashed morons AND get all royalties to themselves, without giving a single % to kickstarter "investors" from sales.

 

Bullshit skyway. Fargo/kickstarter will save PC gaming and free it from the oppression of evil publishers once and for all.
