I wonder how much money Skyway secretly donated to Wasteland 2.

    7*15? :smug:

This just sounds like EA trying to attract some traffic to their also-ran service. Indie fans might be more inclined to buy from Origin if they know that all the money goes to the developers, and when the Origin app is on their computer, they might buy other games later.

This of course doesn't change the fact that Origin isn't better than Steam in any way, and worse in many. There is no reason why anyone would want to buy games on Origin if you can get them on Steam, not to mention services like GoG or Gamersgate that actually have advantages over Steam, giving them a natural slice of the market.

EA seems to think that all they need to do to compete with Steam is to promote Origin better, when they'd have to focus on usability and functionality if they actually want anyone to choose it over Steam voluntarily. I suppose that when all you have is a marketing budget, every problem looks like a focus group :)

Don't worry. EA will probably find a way to backstab Fargo and make Wasteland 2 Origin exclusive or something like that.

Yes that evil EA trying to backstab those poor underground devs by forcing them to release a game through their store and give them money from sales. How dare they!

Clearly this is a cunning plan of EA to bring the end to the Saviour of PC Gaming, the author of Hunted Demon's forge, by selling his game not meant for EA audience!

Might want to take a class on How Games Are Made 101. Just FYI.

Wasteland 2 will be on Origin, STEAM and the inXile website (and I also assume GOG). I don't really see the big deal, other than Origin now offering to distribute KS games and not make a profit from them for 90 days. Which is honestly shocking for EA. But they probably desperately are needing some better good PR for them. Still wondering if Gaben will step up and do something similar....

Yeah, learn the difference between publishing and distributing. Unless they give it to some offer (Fargo said he got offers from publishers during and after the Kickstarter campaign, which he refused) then it shouldn't affect the game in any way.

Except for a handful of games that require Origin, the rest can be launched without starting Origin at all. It's far less restrictive than Steam.

True Answer: That's classified information. It is often said to be between 25 and 30 percent, but it probably varies between games and developers.

steam lets you use dlc in offline mode. you won't be able to use dlc or even continue a game with active dlc when not connected to the net while playing a new ea game (post me2 new), whether it requires origin or not.
so not only do ea games come with origin on top of everything, whether optional or not, they also effectively come with ubisoft's always connected drm since all of them now have essential parts of the game removed in the form of dlc as used-games-sales protection.
the most retarded thing is that both of the connections use the same account and they could have just made origin's offline mode work like steam's and verify your dlc offline, but ea just doesn't give a shit about customers.

Jaesun whiteknighting of everything related to Fargo and Co. is getting tiresome. I bet he would fit nicely on BSN as a mod.

Jane Jensen said she hasn't made any kind of deal EA/Origin earlier today on Kickstarter.

Man Codex really like to bitch about stupid things. Fargo said they will put W2 on pretty much every digital distribution site, and you will be able to buy it from their site, nobody is being forced to buy Origin version.

Yeah I see it already, the super fine print in the contract allowing Fargo to use the Wasteland name had a hidden clause stating it can only be released on Origin.. it all comes together now. Only the Korean overlords could possibly save us now.
