<a href=http://www.ea.com>Electronic Arts</a> has signed an agreement with <A href=http://www.castawayentertainment.com/>Castaway Entertainment</a>, a new studio formed mostly of developers who worked on the <a href=http://www.blizzard.com/diablo>Diablo</a> series of games, to publish Castaway's first unannounced game.

<blockquote>"We are especially excited about this partnership because, like EA, the team at Castaway Entertainment is dedicated to making best of breed entertainment titles," said John Riccitiello, president and chief operating officer at Electronic Arts. "They have the passion, heart and hands-on experience it takes to build an action-RPG title that truly sets the standard within the category. We are confident that this new title will reinvigorate the category by delivering a refreshing gameplay experience and epic RPG fantasy."</blockquote>

Of, course, the idea of making anything other than a fantasy action RPG is RIDICULOUS!

Frankly I'm getting rather sick of all the dwarves, elves and evil orcs that seem to have become the standard for rpg's. Anachronos, fallout and the old buck roger games showed us that rpg'ing can have cool new and interesting settings while still being great games. It seems like the rpg scene is becoming a bearded cliche if this fantasy fad continues...
    Sigh,

Wahey, at the very least it's an action RPG made by the guys who brought us the Diablo games. I'm grateful for that, especially when the only games in the market right now that fit the category are Sacred and the already aging Diablo 2. We've got enough real time strategy and first person shooters, I say bring on the action RPGs - ones that don't suck like Lionheart and Dungeon Siege.

Signing a deal with EA is like signing a pact with the devil.

True. Let's hope they don't make us regret it.
