Elite: Dangerous

I think I got it now. The target was indeed blocked by the planet. So instead of going directly I use supercruise to get a bit closer to another target and then it works. It was actually easy to make some money compared to the original game. Landings are huge fun in this game, and I made my first 20,000 credits delivering boom data in 1h

Beside from the errant boy stuff I accepted a mission for >40K to recover Trade Data from a Nav beacon (because I would be in the system anyway). I am not sure if this is going to be a waste of time because I dont know what to do or if I should try. My ship is equipped with a discovery scanner, and apparently it wants me to go to the Nav Beacon. Apart from that I know shit.

P.S. Good game so far! I already see where it will be getting repetitive eventually but the original was just like that. Were it lets me down most is in the menus inside space stations. Progress is basically just a number of credits and they should do a lot more to present what you are actually achieving.

 

What actually happens if I die? Do I lose my entire ship and every upgrade?

 

you can retrieve everything (but not the cargo) paying 10% of what they cost.
if you can't, you can skimp on some piece of equipment.
if you still can't, maybe you have some other ship left somewhere else.
if you don't, you're an idiot and deserve the starting sidewinder.

It seems a whole lot easier than Elite on the C64 or Amiga. I actually crashed a bit into a survey station while handling my thrusters, and all my ship took was 1% to the livery

 

First day and I made my first 100K credits. This game is much better than I expected, it feels a lot like playing the original with 30 years improvement in computer graphics. Gameplay may not have evolved as much and may not be what everyone hoped for. But the bad reviews make no sense to me, I fully expected it to be shit and it is a mostly pleasant surprise.

 

The Horizons Seasons pass put me in Aegilus Primus, is this a good system to stay for now? So far I made some waqsy money with easy missions, especially hauling cargo missions.

 

I think I can give my mark of approval. I played the 8 bit Elite back in *cough* '87-88 and it still haunts me. I never got into Frontier by Ian Bell (probably because the graphics never appealed to me), could it be that the dissapointment many people experience comes from a different paradigma? This game may be a tad too easy in the mid to long term but it feels like a worthy successor to the original, while it covers not much new grounds in physics the immershuns are great and the controls -while a bit hard to understand at first- seem extremely well thought out, which makes it very convenient to play (joystick+throttle is a must though). I really like that the game was not stressing me out, flying around was fun and not overly time consuming, and every landing was satisfying. There should of course be more collision damage and crashing into planets, but it is not overly shallow or anything, just a game with easy flight sim and trading mechanics that was fun to jump into.

I also retract what I wrote about programming, this only applied to some problems with the hotas setup (which took me a full day to get right). Once I everything was set up it worked very nice and I had not a single bug or crash.

Ehh, I gave in and bought the expansion as well. I only wanted to purchase it during the winter sale, but it is so far a way. I had money on my steam wallet anyway.

Though currently I will play Solo, I need some more time to learn the controls first (firing missiles, scanning, targetting etc doesn't come in a day).

 

Gave me a Scarab and some stuff right away, and I started from a planetary base. The planetary landings are nice looking (think better than KSP) of course you can only land on ~ 1/4 of the worlds but it's something. If they add the other planets with athmospheres etc I will be a happy camper.

Pretty much, yes. But the only difference between the two modes is that you don't meet real people in MP, and since you rarely meet other players in MP anyway, there is not too much difference. SP is good if you don't want to get blow to pieces by human players.

This is indeed quite important to me too, because landing on rocky moons is pretty good in KSP already but athmospheres is a whole different stories.

Did anyone tried the EDFX graphical mod? Looking at the pictures, it improves the graphics quite a lot, it makes the colors more vivid.

Now this "Align with ship trajectory" is back. It seems to happen whan I take off from a planet and makes impossible to enter FSD. I though it was related to the Escape vector but isn't.

That means I line up my compass with the escape vector, but no matter what I do I always get "Align with ship trajectory" and the ship heats up

 

Unfortunately I didn't play Horizons yet, so I can't comment on shit happenning during planet takeoff.

But from the information I gathered, it should be pretty simple.
1. you enter the ship, you take off, You DON'T target any planet or anything
2. you point perpendicularly upwords at a 90 degree angle.
3. you engage FSD
4. Escape vector appears on HUD
5. Ship jumps to supercruise.

I don't know why this align with ship trajectory comes up. Maybe check some youtube videos about take off to see if you do it right.

 

I could escape by targeting the star first. But I have no explanation so far what I did wrong.

I eventually got out but it was a bit stupid. Seems lot of people have this problem but I found no real explanation.

When I buy a new ship, will it be possible to transfer components from the old one over? That is because I dont want to spend all the cash upgrading the Sidewinder and then start all over when I have my next ship.

 

Some people are talking about a "rebuy" option, that is you sell and then rebuy your component. Is that the only way?

Moneywise, I am of course not doing to well with the sidewinder. My plan was to make enough money so that I can get a hauler plus a 2B FSD which gives ~11 ly range and then earn with higher rated cargo missions in the 8t range (right now hauling is completely hit and miss sometimes I get >20K for 2 jumps but at other times nothing)

 

Yeah, I don't know any other option to transfer the components either. You have both of your ships at one station, you sell the component, switch ships and then rebuy the component. Stupid, I know.
