That's what I'm saying. Screw this wishy-washy 'I'll get back to you guys later' stuff. The opportunity is there, so let's take it while the Ynnari need us as much, if not more, than we need them.

Okay, so while I'm confident that accepting a tentative alliance with the Eldar will change how the subsequent meetings with the Tau and Necrons will play out, I am also not sure why we'd decline an alliance at this juncture when we've already been flirting with the idea ever since Yvraine woke us up. This seems like the logical conclusion of that endeavor.

Will they try to plot and fuck us over in some way? Of course, but they would be doing that regardless. We chose The Path of Fate, we know that crisis and calamity will come, it's just a question of how we respond to it and adapt to it.

While I'm certain that they woke up Guilliman only because if benefited them, isn't that inherently how alliances work? You scratch my back, I stab yours, etc.

While I suppose that not offering compromises would allow us to hear out the other players and choose something that benefits us the most, the Eldar are already a step ahead in that regard since we are y'know, awake because of them and all. My take on it is that B is sort of a half-measure - if we are going to decline any sort of an alliance with the most "trustworthy' and 'appealing' faction (i.e. the least bad one, from our point of view), then I'm skeptical that we'd find anything that the Tau or god forbid, the Necrons, bring to the table any more appealing.

Basically, my point is if you're going to turn out an alliance with the best 'candidate' down, why bother hearing out the others?

But in any case, I'm in favour of the alliance and dealing with the ensuing Eldar fuckery as it comes.

My dudes, the Eldar are more desperate for this alliance than we are because they went through the trouble of resurrecting a primarch to secure it prior to making a decision prior to making the decision. They aren't going to go like "welp, so much for that, time to fuck off lol" just because we are going to take the time to humor the other offers. There is no reason we can't try to get a better deal by hearing the other xenos first - this is like negotiation 101.

What better deal? They are already offering an alliance and eventual integration. Coming from the Eldar, that is already a ton. What else do you expect them to put on the table?

You are saying that there is zero chance they would try to sweeten the pot if we elect to speak with the Castrato Brigade and Techno Skellington before agreeing to the alliance?

So your answer is 'I dunno, let's shake the tree and see what falls down?'

Also, the Ynnari have dark Eldar in their ranks, so you don't need to twist their arms for those things. Just subcontract a casino to them and you're set.

As Baltika9 said, regardless of their motivations, they have woken up our Primarch and offered an olive branch. They are desperate, but that's precisely the problem - the circumstances are so dire that every faction is desperate. The fact that we are in a situation where enemies that have hated one another for millenia are talking, let alone considering alliances, should be proof of that. The Age of the Dark Imperium is shitty for everyone.

Problem with all the 8th Edition/Age of the Dark Imperium storyline is that it involves a lot of motion but nothing actually happens. Adsrubael Vect dies but he comes back to life. The twin death moons of Baal get ITZed lifeless but one of them is terraformed back into a paradise. Daemons invade Armageddon but only manage to turn half of it into a hell world. The great rift splits the Imperium in twain but the Indomitus Crusade ensures that the light side is stronger than ever.

Newtonian conservation of autism. Todhu-Ward's false and petty god of balance.

Story was better when the Imperium was poised five-ways on the precipice of annihilation rather than this futile dallying.

Even the circumstances under which they saved Guilliman underline this.

Yvraine and her gang got kicked out of Commoragh after she became a herald of Ynnead and embarrassed the dark Eldar king Vect. She then consulted with chief elf supremacist Eldrad, who told her that it was time to stop playing games with the humans and put a ring on it, meaning a no-nonsense alliance.
'Easy peasy,' thought Yvraine, and went to Cadia to reinforce them against Abbadon's 13th Black Crusade. She made it in time to witness the planet get destroyed and managed to save the life of Belisarius Cawl and some others (an inquisitors, iirc).
Afterwards, she consulted with Eldrad again, who had the idea of saving Guilliman from the poisoned wound he got from his brother Fulgrim, which Yvraine did. Also, Yvraine can turn Rubric Marines into their original form.

Honestly, I think that Eldrad has the right idea: humans and Eldar have been flirting for over ten thousand years. It's time to put a ring on it.

    I prefer the 1d4chan version:

You'd need this for the most recent fluff:

I'm going with A because the Eldar already did us a solid. Reminder - they ressurected Guilliman. That's a BIG thing, because its been a long while since somebody was properly in charge. If not for the Eldar ressurecting Guilliman, the Imperium would have been gone 200 years ago.

I do fear that allying with the Eldar will make the Necrons hate our guts. Eldar vs Necrons is practically a law of physics at this point.

Now that's an interesting take. I'm not as familiar with the lore as some others are, but perhaps it's best to not think of this as "OMG don't take the alliance, the Eldar are gonna fuck us over!" (as that's more of a long-term concern than an immediate one) and more of, "if we have accept an alliance now, it'll negatively affect a subsequent meeting with the other factions, since we're going to have to deal with any bad blood that the Eldar have had, in addition to our own."

And perhaps coming into a meeting without a firm alliance beforehand will allow us to have more open negotiations with both factions, as they'll know that they're just dealing with Roboute Guilliamn, Lord Commander of the Imperium, and not another faction in the background.

That is a good way to look at it. My personal opinion is that the only nonhumans who can be reliably counted on for an alliance are the Eldar and the Tau.
The Necrons are not candidates for any pacts other than a temporary alliance of convenience because they are god-enslaving robots. They do not have anything in common with humans, or anyone else, really. I bet they don't even do movie nights.

Yeah they awoke Girlyman, but it was also the demon Prince of the God they birthed who put him in stasis. They owe the whole galaxy for birthing Slaanesh and ripping a hole into the materium, that now stretches across the Milky Way.

Utter fuck ups who will lead the gullible into damnation, consort with the Xenos at your own risk!
