My dad bought this on Steam but he had to order a new computer in order to be able to play it so in the meantime he gave me his Steam account so I could play it. So far, I kind of like it, but, for maybe one of the first times, I'm not very good at an online shooter. The vehicles are all so...jerky and hard to control and so easy to destroy, twice double especially the helicopters. I was wondering why, when everyone spawns, it's not a teamkill fight for the flying unit like in the battlefield games I've played, but now I kind of know why.

I've bought it shortly after it's been published and played it quite avidly. And my favourtie vehicle in the game is the strogg Tormentor (strogg flying unit, n00b).

ETQW is awesome once you get the hang of it. The sheer amount of different approaches you can take is what makes it for me. Think BF2 but with more depth. That is, objectives. It kind of reminds me of Assault from UT2004 (that's the mode where you progress through the map after each objective, right?), but with classes of course) Some people hate it because they want a simpler shooter, so it depends on what you want. The difficulty is also a bit hard at the beginning, at this stage, since the community now is mostly made up of veterans of the game. I just love games where you can use your cunning to get the upper hand. There are lots of tricks to use, so even if you aren't an elite FPS god, you can still help your team. Also, you can't get technical advantages over new players because any upgrades you get only last for the duration of the campaign (though stats and awards are tracked permanently).

Don`t forget the Goliath(?), the uber mech thing.

ETQW has too much crap in it. Turrets, artillery, air assault beacon-grenade-thingy and more vehicles per square kilometer than any BF game. They should have just kept it to the grenade-thingy, light vehicles like the jetpacks and humvees, and scrapped the rest of the fluff hardware so we, the hardcore BF community, could finally have an infantry focused BF-like game with the speed and skill ceiling of, or at least closer to, a Quake game. But, alas, that was not to be, and instead we got this mega (-textured) flop.

I quit when they nerfed the shotgun and I couldn't play the rambo medic any more.

Also, I hated playing Strogg on that indoor train map. Unless the GDF were complete newbs the last objective was an exercise in pure frustration.

ETQW is a damn good game. I started playing during the first beta and was hooked solid for a year after that. I still play occasionally, and it's still an awesome game. I never did understand why it never caught on, because for me at least it was one of the best multiplayer fps experiences ever.

Try the point of existence mod if you live somehwere with a decent gaming population, it's an awesome mod for bf2.

    Also Natural Selection for hl2.

Those two are in my opinion the best multiplayer fps one can get to date.

Found some info on NS, but what's PoE like? Can't find much besides a plot summary.

NS is for hl1 sorry :x

Point of existence is just a somewhat more realistic mod for bf2 - most of the core gameplay is the same, but with all new weapons and vehicles (germany vs ukraine), but it's really just the same thing done a whole lot better than the original. It also has some rather excellent infantry only maps.

I can't play PoE in Australia, as the community for it died when bf2142 came out so the servers are always empty, unless I want to play in the states :(

I found ETQW to be nowhere near the original RTCW:ET. Objectives in QW are too generic and repeating. I love the linear goals and requirement of classes to fulfill them, as in the original ET, but completely open unrestricted environments hinder teamplay from what I've experienced, and environments themselves in QW are too bland I think. Abundance of vehicles help a lot to break the time you wasted in ET just moving between places, but it also encourages individual play over team play a lot. Also, Strogg weapons are terribly boring pieces of shit, and if I remember correct, some of the class-based abilities make no sense for the class.

Also, as much as tanks were scripted objects in ET, it took was quite a struggle to keep/prevent them going. I find that it's not the case with QW. I lacks focus.

I also despise the art direction and setting of Quake 2+, and the whole Strogg deal. Why they ever moved to such a shit sci-fi setting from mystical/sci-fi hybrid of Quake 1, I'll never understand.

I would love an Enemy Territory mode for Crysis. Classes, class-based achievements and some linearity with objectives.
