I will say it again: I, and 99% of normal people, will not install another launcher unless it's a real banger of a game, and then I will promptly uninstall it again once I am done with that game.

The only way you can defeat Steam is by somehow permitting Valve to transfer all your games from there to the other thing - without needing to reinstall them. As that will never happen, any development on gay launchers will only increase piracy.

"I love monopolies, I am a retard".

It's true, 99% people are retarded, so maybe you're right that this launcher will fail.

Why use a launcher that lets devs earn more of your money that you paid them? I see no reason, yep. Let's throw a tantrum instead.

But I didn't throw a tantrum, nor do I love monopolies. But I do not love having two programs on my computer that do the same thing, so I will simply use one that does it better than the other. But I am not willing to throw away all my existing games to switch unless the alternative allows me to take them with me. That's the most logical thing in the world. You wouldn't install two calculators or two messaging programs, unless you had to.

Let's see here I'll just launch this video from a developer taking his game off of Steam and listen to his reasoning behind why Epic will be a better storefront. Goat Simulator isn't really my cup of tea but I suppose tha-

Nobody wanted a single fucking launcher.... ever.

People prefered being able to lend games to their friends and maybe even sell them.
People also really like boxes just like on Vinyl (the covers), and Manuals... they liked manuals as well.

But no, now i have to use launchers, pay the same price like back in the day (even though i dont get a box, manual or physical media) & dont even actually own the fucking game.

EA cant get people to use origin even though they give away AAA games for free every other week, i dont want anymore bloatware by anyone for any reason...

It's temporary until an automatic system is developed, they officially said so.

You people are making me lose faith in humanity with your toxic shit.

"Nyah you didn't release your game on the launcher that I feel entitled to play on, so I'm gonna pirate". Surreal shit.

If they announced it was exclusive to Steam I bet you'd be arguing the other side.

You almost were there

Why use a launcher(?)
should be the question. Why release onto a launcher? To gain publicity and further reach for your product. Why not release on as many launchers as possible? Big fat paychecks for exclusivity, and those fat paychecks have to be better then the (reasonably calculated) potential earnings from releasing on multiple platforms.

Im happy theres another platform attempting to chivvy steam into being more reasonable with developers, personally im less likely to use yet another launcher to play a small quantity of games that may or may not interest me but thats me. Im sure plenty of people like having all the latest gadgets, gizmos, frontends, bloatware and programs installed and running simultaneously on their system, im less inclined to do so.

If they succeed or fail is not up to developers or the public relations propaganda machine known as games journalism, its due to users and influences showcasing the exclusive titles to generate interest and purchasing power, I wish them all the luck and success in their attempt to wriggle out from tencents thumb.

Anyone saying 'I won't use this store because xxx' is missing the point. Obviously this store is not for you or even the 'average' hardcore PC gamer. They are banking on all those Fortnite kids. Many of whom probably never use Steam.

Will they succeed? I think they have a good chance. Fortnite MAU are in the same ballpark as Steam with 80 million and growing very fast. Fortnite seems to have far bigger kids appeal and mass market mindshare than any Steam game. If they can put 'buy this' in front of all those millions of tiny little addicts logging in every day then it doesn't matter if they have every single Steam feature.

I guess we will know very soon whether this is successful from the sales numbers.

I was going to say this too. Any service which doesn't allow me to download my games on any computer I should ever own, and without the need to install their shitty wrapper application, can go fuck itself.

For now, this means all except GOG can go fuck themselves. I keep steam because of a few games that release only on steam for PC.

If a new steam-like service, i.e. requiring me to install a launcher, comes around, I don't see any reason to switch from steam to that one.

Fortnite is a strong Trojan horse, to be sure, but don't overestimate its power to do anything but get people to install the launcher - actually using the store is another thing. Hearthstone is also a very popular game (albeit not close to being as popular as Fortnite, but the analogy still stands) and people don't use the Blizzard launcher for its storefront.

I think Epic is vastly overestimating its own free-to-play game's ability to get people to buy other shit. It's also overestimating how much the average person cares about SJW developers and manifestos and all that garbage. People just want to buy and play games with minimal effort, and are highly resistant to new solutions unless those truly offer something palpable and remarkable over the established alternative. This isn't the case here - one free game every two weeks isn't as enticing as they think it is, and most consumers aren't bleeding hearts that care about developer margins over their own dollars.

Even in the very unlikely scenario that this would actually come to anything, all Valve has to do is re-institute its old deep discount sales. Any minimal margins Epic might have accrued will have been gone in an instant.

So what you're saying is that the winner of this slapfight will be whichever is easier for the porn industry?

Because I think we know the answer to that one already.

If I have to install another launcher, that would the launcher of another Bittorrent client so I can give my finger to epic games store while downloading their exclusive games twice. At the same time. :killit:

Same.

Anything by EA? Pirate.
Anything by Ubisoft? Pirate.
Anything not offered by either Steam or GoG? Pirate (i.e. Diablo 1).

As people already mentioned, you only own a license to play these games. Not the actual games themselves. It behooves the consumer to pick the platform that has the best chance of surviving if you want to keep your library years into the future. Even if Epic Store has better discounts it might be out of business in a year or so. F that.

Huh? A consumer making a choice of where and how they want to consume stuff?

Wow. I’m shocked Bester. Have you informed Kotaku or RPS or Eurogamer or IGN about this?

Valve don't force their DRM on developers. Many games you can start without going through Steam.

A few hundred at most out of over ten thousand registered games on steam, so yeah, many if you are referring to a statistical irrelevant value as many. I've already heard that extremely common drm apologist talking piece.

Still don't change anything. You don't have to use the DRM if you don't want to. Blame the devs not releasing without DRM, or only releasing on GOG. Not Valves fault.

wonder if the push for this has anything to do with the developer/publisher backlash to steam's extremely lax refund policy

I refund probably half the games I buy and use it as a demo feature now, I'd probably buy a lot less games without it tbh

I don't give a fuck about developers, do you think they care about you? If developers cared about their customers they'd stop putting DRM in games which only hurts paying customers. Every game with DRM is developers giving you a big middle finger.
I use the platform(s) most convenient for me. I wouldn't care if Valve took 99% of their profits.
