Basilisk Games have released a teaser trailer for their upcoming single character turn-based CRPG Eschalon: Book III:

Eschalon: Book III brings the award-winning RPG trilogy to a climatic end as you seek to uncover the mystery of your past, the secrets of the Crux stones, and who the Orakur really are. You’ll traverse miles of virtual wilderness and dungeons, filled with secrets and danger, in an unparalleled role-playing experience designed to feel like a true pen-and-paper RPG.
    • Dozens of fan-requested features and updates to the engine and rule set.
    • Hundreds of graphic updates including re-rendered tiles, new spell effects, and enhanced environment effects. New sound effects and music in crystal-clear HD audio via an updated sound engine.
    • Expanded stats for creatures give them new abilities, defenses and vulnerabilities. Combat will require new levels of strategy.
    • New spells and hundreds of new items for you to discover. A huge world filled with secrets, riddles, traps, treasure, and glory awaits you!
    • Book III is not a dumbed-down “RPG for the masses”. Rapid button clicking won’t save you here. Eschalon pays honor to the greatest RPGs of the past, with unlimited character development options and freedom to explore the world as you wish. The difficulty of the game does not scale to your character.
    • Developer tools to be released shortly after the availability of the game. Build your own maps and make your own adventures!
    • Single player only, like a great RPG should be.
They'd also like you to vote for Eschalon: Book III on Steam Greenlight:

(Which is ridiculous on Valve's part if you ask me, because Books I and II are already on Steam. It's the Wadjet Eye Games case all over again.)

Query: Should I play them in order, or just jumping on Book II or III be better?

  3. They're all quite decent, feli. A little on the easy side but the exploration makes up for it imho. :)
The story of the 1st game is contuned in the 2nd (not that it was impactful or meaningful continuation, anyway. might as well have been a separate plot) and I think 3rd game will pick up right after previous one ended.

EDIT: Also, hey! Great news! Was thinking of Eschalon quite recently. Can't wait.

Yeah- In these games, leisurely button clicking will do just fine. :smug:

It's just as mindless as in Diablo, except it's phase based. Combat is mind-numbingly boring and I'm usually a sucker for TB games.

Simplistic but atmospheric games. Sounds are particularly nice. Good experience overall.

But combat IS boring. No variance in attacks would be ok in a party-based game but in a solo game? Exactly 1 special attack per discipline was added in the second game, that's it. Skills are all over the place as well. If it weren't for TB, early-game challenge and iso 2d graphics this series wouldn't even be worth playing. The story and writing are forgettable as well. I can't even remember anything from the 2 games story-wise and my standards aren't even that high.

  11. The graphics look nice. I don't like the roguelike-style combat, though.

The combat is pretty bad. It's roguelike-style combat without any of the non-combat options that make roguelikes challenging, so it just becomes a turn-based Diablo. I couldn't get into the games for this reason, mainly.

I've managed to clock in over 100 hours on both Eschalon games. Needless to say I'm quite excited to play this one.

Wasn't there talk a good while back of his possibly doing a party-based game after finishing the trilogy or am I just repeating someone else's wishes?

FUCK YEAH!!! Love the 2 first games. Day 1 buy when this comes out for me, I like this series (I can see why some do not like it though). And the music in the trailer kicked ass. And man, it's kind of sad... this is going to be the end of this story arc/trilogy. I have grown to really like the story, characters and setting.

Anyways, looking forward to this. <3 <3

    Agreed, Jaesun.

Hope it leads to another trilogy of of games just like this one, except with a party.

This will honestly be a day one for me as well.

I'm wondering what's on their plate next after the Eschalon Book comes to an end.
    Worth looking at.

Someone please answer this very simple question:

Did they finally add the run/sprint button for this game?
    Pretty please guys.

No. The dev won't do it and it's not something you can mod. This answer goes for all 3 games.
