Haven't played the EU series for a long time (EU3 original briefly when it came out) but I am considering getting HttT + the 'complete' collection.

I realize with new features Paradox games always get new flaws...

So how good is the game at the moment? Are there any must have unofficial patches or mods?

magna mundi improves the game by 500000%

although if you haven't played it for years you'll probably be fine with just vanilla. in fact I'd recommend vanilla because magna mundi is harder and you should familiarize yourself with the game a bit first.

if you want to see other mods go to the paradox forums, they have all the major mods stickied (most of them kinda suck tho)

I have played Magna Mundi before for the original version and the added features were great.

I'm wondering how it adapted to Heir to the Throne.

I was looking around and noticed this mod looks pretty cool but for a later play:

Magna Mundi - introduces many stupid design decisions that I definitely disagree with BUT makes the game considerably harder for the player. Slow.

MEIOU - adds a LOT of provinces to the game and few other ncie features, is not noticeably harder. Slow.

Divide et Impera (DeI) - Polish mod. Adds a lot provinces and features but makes the game a LOT slower. Not sure if implemented for HTTT.

SRI - seems to be MMU lite, dunno if adapted, never played it.

Dark Ages - moves back in time to years after the fall of the Roman empire. Sounds cool but never played it and seems kinda early stage of developement.

I can only add another vote for Magna Mundi. The problem with most "big" mods including MM is the speed. Even on a good computer they are much slower than vanilla.

The Barbarian recommends Terra Nova, for the fun factor. It's available for HTTT 4.1b (April 29th version).

Easier than MMU by a stretch, but also much easier to get into. Less 'realistic' than the aforementioned, but certainly better than vanilla. The AI is far superior.

What are the main features of TN? I went to the dude's ModDB website but it was a mess, the description just said "everything is better".

They reworked more or less everything. Combat, for example, is definitely an improvement. The AI can put up a decent fight during wartime, although it is still prone to throwing one regiment armies at your ten regiment groups (which is insta-destruction for the one regiment army). Usually, however, only after its bigger armies are destroyed. It tries to raise larger bodies of men at all times, at least. Also, in TN you can no longer recruit generals directly, they are given through events. The same goes for diplo-annexation, which is good for overall balance...

It's nowhere near as detailed as Magna Mundi Ultimate, but at least it doesn't make a barbarian want to cry out of frustration.

Conan enjoys it for the added content (more nations, more provinces, more events) and the overall simplicity of the design. MMU is for those who want to experience a different game, altogether.
