Played 3 games so far. Once as the Mamlukes with which I pretty much recreated the Ottoman Empire from a egyptian perspective; another as the Byzantines and the latest one as Portugal. It started out uneventful but, suddenly, Castille was utterly annihialated by Aragon and now we are competing for her scraps.

Though I'm already winning on that front it appears that no matter what I do my armies are shit. In the first two games I chalked that up to a lack of westernization but now, with trees of military ideas complete, average generals and terrain advantages equal or even advantageous odds are nothing against my enemies. Its even like they are a military superpower compared to me, our techs are similar and they aren't focusing on military idea groups either. France's saving my ass all the time, as my carefully recruited allies often do, but I have a question: is there any way to keep army tradition high in the early game? Because average generals is the only thing I have lesser when compared to Aragón.

May be problems are with your army composition. Verify, that you have decent amount of cavalry and artillery in your army. Also Aragon already may have his last NI, that give a bonus to moral. Also check your military adviser. It is better to choose morale or discipline ones. And if it possible, you could claim DoF.

About your tradition question. The only way to have it high are wars. And you acquire more tradition when you loss battles, than when you win them. But defensive and innovative ideas will help you to keep your military traditions. Also I am not sure, but traditions also depend on your maintenance.
As alternative, you may choose offensive, which will improve your military leaders.

Any hints about how, when I have a lot of rebellions I can beat up 60 + 30 + 30 rebels with army of 17 and well 200+ soldiers per month? Also I need 75 legality which is problem when I have -70 prestige because of rebels.

I'm going to start working on my converted save later on, but it doesn't have much in the way of vikings.

Well I actually added vikings after the fact, in the campaign itself I had specifically exterminated all the Norse (along with Russians). So I added Jomsvikings for teh lulz as a very likely colonial power. The real work is in reworking the giant Finno-Ugric empire into separate states.

Seeing as you say you have multiple trees of military ideas, I'm guessing your "similar" military tech is still a bit behind from investing on those. Compare your military tech to theirs and see what the missing levels would give you. Being behind on a military tactics or unit type level can easily be worth at least an entire military idea tree if not more.

Just give in to their demands. 60k rebels is insane, what are you doing?

He probably started getting Jackals, Vultures!

I hate that event so much. Especially when it fires cause somebody else has rebels that cross through my territory to get to the rest of theirs.

If someone else has rebels that cross into your territory, you can use the support rebels mission on their country to make them on your side, then they'll go right back.

I stopped playing when 30k Lollards crossed into my border from England. Followed by another 30k when the 1st wave succeeded.

Japan westernizaiton. Actually I'm done, but these rebels are ravaging the Asian part. Only these provinces grabbed from Aztecs are fine.

Here this image shows these few rebels. Actually I can beat up these Korea ones. And I already accepted demands of these Brunei ones.

If they are catholic rebels, it's apparently a bugged event that happens way too often if you fulfill the requirements as Japan.

Yea it's got to be a bug, it doesn't make any sense at all and happens ONLY to Japan.

Well, once I start doing it... I guess it should be a day's work. I tend to crunch this stuff fast. All I gotta do is change province owner tags, add history notes for rulers, and then get to work on fine-tuning ideas (and maybe switching all of the Finno-Ugric states to tribal despotisms/federations).

Haven't had much trouble with rebels and pirates in this version. Pirates have gone from being a major pain in the ass to a minor annoyance (compared to EU3, where pirates would appear all over the fucking place as soon as you hit the appropriate tech level) and rebels, other than the occasional "jackals, vultures" or liberalism doomstacks, are quite manageable, especially due to the fact that all colonies start with a level 1 fort (just picture huge swathes of fortless American colonies, being conquered effortlessly by a single stack of rebels, as in the previous version...)

The main change is that there's no Holy Roman Empire, and most states in Europe begin as relatively large ones (since in the campaign the Karlings never went extinct and maintained realm integrity well). The main thing is that there's now a number of pagan countries (including Lithuania, Khazaria and Kievan Rus) in addition to the strong Finno-Ugric states (I can write up a little faux history to explain what happened when I get a satisfactory start date whipped up).
