EU4 was spamming DLC before Holy Fury (which proved to be highly receptive). You should be thankful for the yearly release cycle as this will expansion will be of higher quality

Obviously. Otherwise you would know Fant is the village idiot

Emperor has more content than the last 2-3 EU4 DLCs and arguably Sengoku.

And? No 'yearly' release in 2018 or 2017. Imperator development started after CK3 and was always a Johan vanity project that failed miserably. CK3 is a slam dunk and I doubt Paradox gave a fuck if they released it the same year as I:R, it just wasn't ready.

Since you replied to a post about Holy Fury, I thought you were talking about 'quality' PDS DLC content.

    New achievements:

I like achievements in Paradox games, they're actually interesting compared to most games' "complete chapter 3", "finish the game on hard", "collect every bullshit item".

And hey, there's even one just for You Lot.

Looks like this game is not that popular on the Codex? I would have thought otherwise.

How do Victoria 2 and CK2 compare to EU4? Any of those more accessible?

CK 2 is the most accessible game out of the bunch because it's is fun even if you are losing. Just start a game as a christian count and start learning how to play from there.

I would say EU is the most accessible, and easy to start with imo. Its literally "glorified Risk", you just map paint, there are a bunch of systems under the hood but you can generally ignore some of them.

CK2 I found not that easy to start, because your goals are based around your character/dynasty, so its harder to see the progression you get with just map painting. And I also found it very obtuse for awhile, usually I like to maximize my output in strategy games and CK2 feels like a lot of sitting around waiting while stuff happens. Though as above I see many people say CK2 is easier to get into so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Waiting-to-see-what-happens is what happens when you play as a Christian deep in the heart of Christendom. That's the clasic Newbie Island position of 1066 Ireland. Play as someplace less stable and locked in and you'll get to be very proactive.

    Acessibiliy rank is EU4 > CK2 > Vic2.

All 3 are great games in their own way.

I just want Monday to come so I can stop avoiding new games.

In a wider sense, Stellaris, HoI4, and Imperator are more accessible than any of them.

Strongly suggests EU4 development isn't ending with Emperor. :)

I played it for quite a bit. But the barrage of DLC eventually drove me away. Returning after a couple of years to these games is quite the experience when you look at all the DLC you'd have to buy. The same goes for all Paradox Grand Strategy games after VickyII.

Paradox DLC (at least prior to Imperator and Stellaris) is pretty weird, but at the same time the raw numbers are really misleading.

I find it weird when people complain about it these days, given CK2 + all expansions and EU4 + all expansions have each been on sale for 15 USD in the past year (with a bunch of keys lying around for cheap as a secondary consequence).

Not to mention people on here seem to just pirate them.

Oh, and Lady Error: it's a really good time to get into CK2 because of the challenges they're running prior to CK3's release. Ostensibly it's for some silly cosmetic unlocks but they are actually fun, good for new players, and teach you about some pretty interesting figures if you can make the great effort of clicking on a button that leads to Wikipedia. :D

If starting from scratch, I would argue that you only need a few major DLC for CK2 or EU4 to set yourself up very well. As long as you don't torture yourself with pointless FOMO.

The issue can be when great mods require you to have X Y Z DLCs to function.

I dunno man, I'd say most DLC are important as you choose to play in each region. The region agnostic ones (though mechanics like pirate republics, Orthodoxy, etc. are attached to regions) however tend to be pretty essential.

(To be clear, saying this with EU4 in mind, I have trouble with remembering the exact division lines of content in CK2 outside the obvious things like Charlemagne start date (RIP) or being able to play as Muslims.)
