This guy says what I always knew. Working on mobile games as a PC guy would be a soul-raping experience.

Best observation in the whole column, and why gamers willing to pay a lot of money for quality games will always win out in the end.

This could actually turn out interesting

How is that hardly a surprise considering it's shared by HHR?

Archmage thingy is gonna turn out worse than the mobile garbage he produced.
It has zero draw to it. Nothing interesting/rare/original/unique. Not even a schtick. No brand name. No ambition. Just banal shit boring magikz! A generalized wish for self fulfilment on par with a teenager. Self made system which is gonna be shit. Lore done by a 37 year old manchild. Unity... I mean... why...

Sounds like it will do well since that sounds like a lot of games on Steam right now. Might have better chance of success on Steam then mobile market as this is 8th story in a row of mobile developers suffering depression when they didn't make million in the mobile market.

It doesn't matter if his first PC project isn't a hit. It matters that you do what you love. Because even as you fail, you grow your skills in a direction that will pay off, as opposed to just wasting your life.

At least he's passionate about making a game that lives up to the stuff he loves and looks up to. Hopefully Archmage Rises will turn out good, because, hey, why not have more good games to play? And to be honest reading through their website I can't say that the idea for the game sounds shit. Certainly not lacking in ambition.

Ye, sounds fun. All up to the implementation. Not a huge fan of the apparent art style though.

Well there are worse games that are out there being sold on Steam so if anything it might be successful depending on how much marketing effort he puts into the game.

I'm not surprised he didn't made money. Should have released 12 mobile games in that period. Together with cute artwork or tits and blood. Genre doesn't matter I guess.

HHR, it's you! Just say that you want to promote your own article!

I am natively a French speaking Quebecer who never lived in Toronto and would never work in the game industry, much less on mobile.

Games sounds very promising. I hope he can deliver the goods, and sell it on GOG. Then he'll get his 20 bucks from me.

Stardock made an observation here in regards to mobile and why they didn't enter it. Turns out that if you're not in the top ten apps, the profits drop hard and fast. People are conditioned not to pay on mobile, and who can blame them given the quality of games... It's a super high risk high reward game.

Yes, yes it is. You're the funniest sad clown I've ever had the pleasure to see/read.

The funniest bit, he's making the SAME MISTAKES in his PC "renaissance".
Following trends (using Unity, randomly generated worlds, permadeath, crafting, CHOICES), shooting too big for a first project with no experience in designing those games outside of "hurr I like Starcraft and goldbox games", spending too much time talking about the idea of being a developer instead of fucking doing it and so on.
I like this tiny bit from his website about the game:
    :hero:

He made the facebook page since november last year and he has 128 likes (most are probably since the article).

    From his forum

This isn't passion, this is an autist who can't into anything. I wouldn't have a problem with his delusions of grandeur and his manchildren mentality if he didn't spend such a giant amount of money. The costs for those two shitty games is 2 or 3 times the amount of money Pyke has for Stasis.

:argh:thank you HHR, you ruined my fucking day.

They don't, this is all clearly the product of a mind deprived of oxygen for too long.
