Anyone else thing Fallout 2 is boring? I can play Fallout over and over, but Fallout 2 is boring.

You start out as some retarded barbarian, so it doesn't make sense to make a high intelligence/big guns/energy weapons/lockpick/anything character. The Temple of Trials is stupid. New Reno is stupid. All of the dumb pop references are stupid. Everything in New Reno is really stupid.
It takes place too far after the actual nuclear war. I'd prefer to go to another part of the country.

The pipe rifle is awesome, but all the real-world guns, the p-90, FN-FAL, the hk, etc. are stupid. Fallout isn't about playing with real weapons. I don't think the Desert Eagle should've been in Fallout 1, the 14mm pistol should've been it's replacement (same stats and stuff, so it would actually be useful).

The atmosphere doesn't seem like it's post apocalyptic, just lawless. And not even lawless in a cool wild west way, just lawless in a "lolz dere aer hookrs and drugs and cussnig i cn hav lesbo sexxx wit that wun lady!"

The aliens were stupid. Why are there aliens?
The plot was stupid. Really stupid.
    Horrigan was stupid.
Too many easter eggs. Too much nonsensical "lol tis is fnny!" contrived humor. Fallout 2 seems like a parody of Fallout 1, sometimes. They took a lot of what everyone loved about Fallout 1, and then put flashing lights and billboards around it. Maybe less is more, with some things.

A fault in both games: the name slot is too short to put "Patrick Stewart"
If I just put Patrick, people might think I mean Patrick Moore (who plays the xylophone).

It was too long. It was overstretched. Usually I wouldn't complain about too much content, but a lot of the content was pointless.
That stupid tree in Harold's head. What the hell?
Sulik. Ugh. What were they thinking?

Too much sex. Seriously. Let's compile a list of people you can sleep with. Feel free to add ones that I miss.
    *= when you're female
**=when you're both male and female

    Guy with key in Klamath*
    Women in the spa.
    Hooker in the Den.
Guy in bar in the Den.*
    Slavemaster in the Den.*
    Miria in Modoc.**
    Davin in Modoc.**
The lady whose husband you rescue in Vault City.
The S&M mutant in Broken Hills (if you lose the arm wrestling match).**
The retarded wannabe Texan prostitute in the bar in Redding.
Cat's Claw mistresses in New Reno.**
The mafia boss's wife in New Reno.**
The mafia boss's daughter in New Reno.
You can keep a cock hard at the porn studio in New Reno.**
You can star in a porn movie in New Reno.**
Those are all that I can remember off the top of my head.

As far as I can remember, you can sleep with two people in the first Fallout. The lady at the Red Caravan, who gives you free stuff so it's not just a -fade to black omg you had sex- and the prostitute in Junktown.

So, I don't like Fallout 2. Who else doesn't? If you don't like Fallout 2 you are a better person than people who do.

I've never played it, but if it isn't the next game I buy, Arcanum is.

    You're boring.

We need to cease and desist any complaints at all with either Fallout 1 or 2. One bad point might drive Bethesda to use the Oblivion engine and create Fallout FPS: Mutant Mayhem. You never know what might drive those crazies over the edge.

    FO2 > FO1

Anyone who whines about FO2 having aliens then conviently forgets the fact that FO1 also had aliens shouldn't be takens eirously.

You are really a genius. I'm talking about the aliens with the paddle tentacle hands, not the crashed UFO.

    Retard.

I think FO 1 had aliens. It's been a very long time since my last time through but the fact that the model is old, (not the new shitty gangsta fx modelz) should tell you something.

They dropped the ball on Fallout 2. It just doesn't compare or stay consistent to the originals story, setting, atmosphere, and multiple ways to accomplish quests, specifically the end game.

Fallout 2 does drag on a bit, and doesn't have same atmosphere as Fallout. It really doesn't have the strong immediately-post-the-apocalypse feel that Fallout has, but it is set 80 years after the first game, so I suppose that's not surprising. But it's not good either. I, too, would have liked to just see it set in a different part of the country (somewhere up near Boston would have been cool) but at the same basic time as the Fallout, with a few vague references to what's been happening down south, instead of "U R TeH CHOZEN ONE!!!!" descendant of your character in the Fallout, blah, blah, crap, crap.

While it wasn't as good as the first game, I still think its a great game and do enjoy it whenever I play it. There was nowhere in FO2 that even got close to feeling of The Glow in FO1, though. The Sierra Base near New Reno was a poor substitute. I love The Glow.

As for FO3... I imagine it's going to suck.

Main thing that pisses me off about FO2 is all the forced combat, considering the original let you play a variety of ways.

There were *NO* aliens in the game. well, except for that little easter-egg spec. encounter.
If you think that wanamingos/floaters are aliens, then you surely don't really have a clue about Fallout setting. Read the Bible first.

Anyways, I love both games equally. I love FO1 for the storyline, because I deem it superior to that of FO2, but FO2 compensates that with the greatest freedom concept I've ever witnessed. It gives you a great feeling of being a lone wastelander doing something for yourself, not only for some community that you're attached to.

My biggest complaint with FO2 is that they didn't make the option to betray/raze Arroyo and cease the mainplot. It would have been a *huge* complement to the freeformity of the game and would have added another dozen walkthroughs to my list.

I don't understand why is everyone bitching about New Reno. The civilization was not wiped out entirely, alright? Many people are aware of what was before the blast, adn they migh have even had familiar bonds with that time. Criminals are always present. Well, criminals in New Reno were evidently familiar with their pre-nuclear predecessors and decided to accept the heritage, why not?

San-francisco is not lame either. It's pretty logical. The chinese tanker/sub were there, remember? Of course, the kung-fu thing is a bit abused. Not that it couldn't be there, no. But yes, it still felt pretty poppy... Other than that, the city was fine.

Too much sex? Well, what the fuck did you expect in a lawless environment? Perfectly-clean-conciense women with paranjas?

    Goddamn that was funny.

To continue the theme of repeating stuff from dead discussions, FO2 doesn't deserve a place in any pantheon of epochal games (unlike FO1), but it had lots of good pieces even if the whole was off. New Reno makes no sense, but the majority of the crime family quests are very well done and written when taken individually, for instance. The pedestrian RPG elements like the lewt and companions were much better than in FO1, though. I like replaying FO2 more than FO1 just because the game elements are more fun, really, as familiar as the story elements of each game are.

Whoever was responsible for the tribal crap should be punched.

If I remember correctly, the Tribal area and storyline, and The Chosen One was St. Timmay and Co.'s creation before they left Interplay. I forget what parts Black Isle changed from the origional plot.

I'd say FO1 was better realism wise, and FO2 was better game overall, but realism was sacrificed for some gameplay gain... or just for fun, if you wish, heh.
How good or bad it is a subjective.

Yet, when it comes to freedom or roleplay, both first and second Fallouts are similar.
I think that second is even better then that, personally. But, again, that's rather subjective.

Agreed. Just like the prophecy said.
Anyhoo, I played FO2 BEFORE FO1 and I thought that the sequel was a much better game than the first.

    Prediction: FO3 will suck.

Fix: If you want another post-apocalyptic game, try http://www.the-fall.com/. Since it hasn't be released in a language I'm comfortable with, I can't comment on it but the 1.9 patch shows how much the game was broken at the time of the launch AND how much developers are doing their best to add fixes, improvements and new features.

Fallout is a great game from start to finish.

FO2 starts out well but unravels halfway through, I rarely find myself motivated enough to finish a game by the time I get to San Fran.

Well thank you for telling me what I don't know, but when you mouse over the wanamingos on the tanker it says Alien. They look like aliens. Post-facto revisions in the Fallout Bible are irrelevant.

My first post was a little overdone, yeah maybe. I played Fallout 2 a few times through. I really do hate New Reno and the tribal areas. And the town you could splatter with poo. Funny the first time. But really.
I can't help but compare them, and the second disappointed me a lot.

I think, about the plot, it didn't have much direction. Besides the retarded Vault conspiracy and the unoriginal genocide virus, you were basically just wandering around.

In Fallout you had a very explicit task: Get a water chip, other vaults might have one so go find some other vaults. Then the second major quest was revealed to you as you completed the first and explored the various locales and talked to people.

Also. FEV got way too prominent in Fallout 2. You'd think it was a biological war, not a nuclear war.

Well, I think its way too early to start making judgements, but I really don't want a first person shooter. I am maybe willing to compromise on turn based (though I would prefer it), I just am not interested in first person RPGs. They don't seem intuitive enough. It doesn't have to be isometric, or 2d, or hex based (though hex based is so much better when you are doing turn based battles. check fallout tactics ugh it was impossible to tell how far you needed to move)

From what I understand, Bethesda is still in early pre-production. They haven't really decided what they are going to do yet. At least, as far as I know.

I don't think fallout2 is boring. It is more humour-heavy, and I guess it's pretty shallow humour at that, so if you're not into it...well fine. Sure, story had a few development problems, but I had an immmensely good time playing it. BTW, sorry to go off topic, but someone mentioned The Fall...I've played it (my German is pretty good), and I personally think it sucks...don't wish to elaborate off topic but basically it's buggy, the storyline is awful, character development could have used a hand. Positives are some original ideas in character creation, interesting setting and decent premise...humour is bad too.
