Looking for family/significant other is an extremely overused hook in fiction in general, and especially in videogames. It has become almost as annoying as the Chosen One type of trope. It's also very weak and uninspired because you have no reason to give a fuck as a player other than "family".

Also, it allows them to develop a world that doesn't have to "make sense" since you're just passing through.

They actually don't care about Fallout's themes at all. It's basic hack screenwriting 101. The easiest way to avoid having to characterize your protagonist is to make him or her a family man or woman, then put their kid in danger. Because everybody on the planet has a family, it makes them instantly relatable.

Shadman is an ok guy. He was literally kicked out of Switzerland's whole tertiary educational system because of his degeneracy. Then he want to the army and got to drive fuking tanks.
Anyway, just a reminder: keep the names and sites who gave Rage mediocre ratings at hand. And then compare them to the upcoming reviews for Fallout 4.

So stupid. (Them, not you.) I related so much better to my Skyrim characters because they let me project my own motivations onto them. Somehow I imagined Bethesda had learned their lesson after "You care deeply about Liam Neeson ... shut up! Yes you do!!" didn't really fly; but instead of sticking with what worked in Skyrim - the blank slate - now they've compounded their mistake from F3 by voicing the protagonist in F4. Not only am I supposed to be invested in finding some kid I'm told I have, I'm also supposed to be excited to play as Blando Everyface, the Character With No Character.

Just as a reference, The Pitt has you rescuing a baby... However, you do get to choose if you want to kill or save this baby. This is supposed to have a consecuence, but I can't remember how deep it was.

He's already got power armor after only a few hours of gameplay. FFS.

Agreed. As horrible as the story was in Skyrim, you could essentially ignore it; with enough mods (*ahem* Requiem), you could actually have a little fun with the gameplay. I don't know if I'll be able to scrape enough of the Todd Howard out of Fallout 4 to get any kind of enjoyment from it.

watching him play makes me understand why games are streamlined until even braindead moutbreathers can play it.

and it still isn't dumbed down enough, amazing, really.

Nothing wrong with having a baby in a story. My problem is their naked desperation in trying to motivate you by appealing to your familial instincts. See this baby? It's voiced by Jason Statham! And it's your baby! And now it's gone!! Go find it!! You care dammit!! Just give me a situation and let me decide whether and why I care. That's part of what a fucking western RPG is supposed to be about. Leave the premade PCs and their heartstring backstories to JRPGs.

So it's probably a Ghoul baby. Vault City recommends a good drowning.

I'd care a lot if my baby had Jason Statham's voice.

There was speculation to that effect awhile ago, that because the suits now have finite energy supplies Bethesda figures they're okay to hand over earlier. Do you use it now, or wait a bit for a tougher situation?

He'd be right, should the rest of the game have any depth to it. Of that, however, he will not convince me -- I've been listening to too much Fleetwood Mac lately.

    Bahahahaha

I know some of you have seen the entire plot of the game (Basically Fallout 3 except now you're the daddy)
But don't worry.. the magic of watching Dogmeat jump off an elevator is seeing it for yourself!!!!

In practice though you're gonna end up with more resources than you know what to do with, if not be able to manufacture the resource outright.

Oh yeah, so many ways to play. You can either mindlessly kill enemies or pretend you're playing the sims.

Your Story™ will differ from other people's stories in that you might visit the locations and kill the enemies in a slightly different order to your friends.

Of course, there are those of us who refuse to ever drink a Potion of Light Healing, because I might need it more "later"!

Not that I care about Power Armor anyway, only serves to dehumanize my awesome character. Oh wait.
