<p>In a mostly fluff piece at <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3844&Itemid=2" target="_blank" title="Next Gen Interview">Next Generation</a>, <a href="http://www.designer-notes.com/about.html" target="_blank" title="Soren Johnson">Soren Johnson</a>, best known as lead designer for Civilization IV, revealed that Firaxis is working on a new top secret IP.</p><blockquote><p>I am working on a secret project right now. It&rsquo;s a long way off, it&rsquo;s new IP, and it&rsquo;s a bit of a hybrid of two well-established PC genres. It&rsquo;s also highly influenced by a well-established classic from the &lsquo;80s that never really had a follow-up. We&rsquo;ve been having a ton of fun playing it&hellip; wish I could say more! </p></blockquote><p>OK, I'm going to call it - it's a "spiritual sequel" to <a href="http://www.atariage.com/screenshot_page.html?SoftwareLabelID=157" target="_blank" title="phone home etc">E.T.</a> and it will be a turn-based platformer. You heard it here first, folks.</p><p>Since we're in Civ-related territory, Flash of Steel has a <a href="http://flashofsteel.com/index.php/2006/09/18/gamers-bookshelf-civilization-or-rome-on-640k-a-day/" target="_blank" title="Gamer's Bookshelf">book report</a> on <em>Civilization or Rome on 640k a Day</em>, a Civilization strategy guide from 1992. </p>

"RPG/RTS hybrid based on Master of Magic" by Firaxis? That doesn't sound too bad to me.

Master of Magic was 1994, n00bs.

Would love to see a (faithful) modern remake, though.
