[ Announcement ]

Since zombie games are all the kids can talk about these days, Kerberos Productions (aka the Sword of the Stars team) put out the official announcement (via Paradox) for Fort Zombie.

The undead will walk the Earth this Fall, as Paradox Interactive today kicked off PAX 2009 with the unveiling of Fort Zombie. Tackle hordes of zombies in this lite Action/RPG title that will be available through all major digital distribution channels.

In Fort Zombie, players will find themselves trapped in the small town of Piety, Indiana. Faced with no other choice but to find shelter from an impending wave of zombies migrating from a nearby metropolis, players will be challenged to choose a building to be their Fort throughout the entire campaign. By effectively focusing efforts on building up this structure, in between scouring town for supplies, and searching out and training survivors, players will have a shot at surviving the massive zombie onslaught.

For the few remaining citizens of Piety, each new day brings more fear. Only the most prepared citizens of Piety will stand a chance against the zombie infestation. Choose from a variety of daily tasks and efficiently build up your characters stats and skills as you battle blood-thirsty invaders and attempt to avoid total infestation. But the most important thing of all is that you build up your Fort if anyone is to have any hope of surviving your last, big stand-off against the coming undead swarm.

Sounds more like strategy lite rather than an action RPG, but we'll see how it plays soon enough.

Its apparently the same engine as northstar, which is TURN BASED. So that's 2 turn based zombie game announcements in a month. I think it might be a sign of the apocalypse.

really? I though NorthStar was supposed to be a Sundog remake? if it sticks to the same gameplay model, it wouldnt really be turn-based as much as it would be.. well.. not exactly realtime.

you'd be playing in what seems like real time, but you'd have freedom to go where you wanted and do what you wanted until you hit some trigger event that the AI had to respond to. moving on the world or system maps would take time, but sitting there wouldnt. hitting random encounters on the street would bring up realtime combat, but days wouldnt really advance if you werent traveling or sleeping.

the basic gameplay isnt too far off MegaTraveler either, if you remember that one. It was party based, so it might be a closer analogy to NorthStar. Though I havent heard the Devs mention that one. Maybe they never played it.

i havent really read much about NorthStar except to hear that its inspired by sundog and that it isnt out yet. if its turnbased, then im very curious as to how the gameplay is supposed to work out.
