XXXVII - Age of Empires

Carpathia - once Cumania is in severe decline.

01.jpg

Revolts have taken almost half of their core province, while their Hungarian vassals are in the verge of revolt.
Elsewhere, Egypt stirs...

02.jpg

The Imperium laughs at the face of this threat.

03.jpg

04.jpg

06.jpg

07.jpg

Many offer their assistance, much to the Emperor's surprise, perhaps this can be exploited somehow...

05.jpg

It's not like the Fatimids are not having problems of their own.
Deciding that perhaps this conflict is best to be prolonged, the Emperor withdrew the request for his vassal's levy and entrust the fighting to his allies and a token force of templars.

08.jpg

Meanwhile, the Crusade for Carpathia continues.

09.jpg

10.jpg

Another duchy falls under the rule of the Imperium.

11.jpg

More to come.

12.jpg

The request for more war funds from Rome goes unheeded.

13.jpg

Most despicable? This insult will never be forgotten.
Elsewhere the Khagan of Carpathia struggles to control his Hungarian vassal.

14.jpg

And finally...
Angelos left.
15.jpg

His successor Alphonse is not his first choice, yet the Emperor deemed his son unready for rule.
Envy and jealousy fills the Imperium as the Emperor literally showered his cousin with many lands before his passing.

16.jpg

Alphonse, realizing that he must move quickly to appease his vassal did what he could by gifting away remote counties and pressing their claims.

17.jpg

There will hardly be any time for pilgrimage.

18.jpg

He is also of ill-health. A worrisome development.

19.jpg

Vultures are already circling above his heads...

20.jpg

Yet the newly crowned Emperor remains strong, how could he fail now when the plan is almost close to fruition?

21.jpg

Rome also suffered a loss... Pope Julius II survived for 91 years before his passing.

22.jpg

Many wondered how the new Pope and Emperor of Persia will work together in future.

23.jpg

Time will tell.
For now, the Emperor moved swiftly, his first duty is to secure the future of his successor.
Unlike Gabriel, who started young, Alphonse is 41 when crowned.
In less than 20 years, God willing, Persia will need a new Emperor.
He considered his son, Benoit but found his daughter in law wanting.
Only one way to fix that.

24.jpg

25.jpg

26.jpg

With a good wife by his side, all that is left is to ensure the young prince receive parcels of conquered lands on a frequent basis
With that settle, the Emperor can now focus on his military campaign...

27.jpg

Revolts are commonplace.

28.jpg

This one is not too far from Antioch.

30.jpg

More land for the Imperium as Alphonse is starting to stabilize the great Empire under his rule.

XXXVIII - The Second
More revolts break out around Persia, but the Empire has gotten used to it.

01.jpg

02.jpg

But what is more worrying is the fact that these revolts are actually lead by very skilled officers.

03.jpg

The Templars would not do battle with fellow followers of the Cross. Hence the levy and retinue is called into action.
Elsewhere, the Carpathian Khanate attempts another expansion.

04.jpg

A sense of normalcy returns to the Empire somewhat, what few Pagan counties are being claimed by the army.

05.jpg

06.jpg

And claims are pressed.
Even the Emperor began to feel better.

07.jpg

08.jpg

As revolt after revolts are put down.

09.jpg

And what few Irish counts are displaced by the Emperor's chosen few.

10.jpg

There were also plans to install a new Georgian King.

11.jpg

13.jpg

The Empire is strong. And wants more.

14.jpg

Carpathia is about to endure another loss of territory to their dreaded enemy.
More claims pressed, this time in Southern France.

15.jpg

Alas, the Holy War against Carpathia had to be called off, the whole Hungarian Kingdom rose against the Khanate.

16.jpg

The Twilight of Carpathian Empire has begun.

17.jpg

Almost simultaneously, an old enemy rose from the East.

18.jpg

19.jpg

It appears Emperor Alphonse will have to repeat the feat that his predecessor performed many years ago...

20.jpg

Once more. Into the breach.

XXXIX - No more masks
05.jpg

Without the Raven's assistance, all is lost.

06.jpg

The Carpathian Empire collapses, swallowed whole by the incoming Golden Horde.

07.jpg

As the Persian Jihad came to a close, many expected the Imperium to make their move.

08.jpg

However the signs foretell a different outcome...

09.jpg

As the Papal forces engage in a hopeless war against the marauding hordes, no help is coming.

10.jpg

For the Ravens have other plans, one that involves Rome yet of a different end...

11.jpg

12.jpg

13.jpg

The Blood Ravens are about to commit the greatest act of heresy: they shall install one of their own as the Pope.

15.jpg

14.jpg

That was the true intent of the gifting of lands.
Vast, undeveloped territories - drained of manpower, left under the care of the Papacy have enjoyed much stability and the coins from Rome accelerated their growth - much faster than Imperium governance can ever achieve.
Not to mention the availability of excellent priesthoods helps the spread of Christianity upon the very wastelands they govern upon.
And for decades, the infant worlds were nurtured... now - they are ripe for the taking.
The Ravens shall collect their dues.

16.jpg

Thousands land upon the shores of Rome, bearing arms and bolter fire.

17.jpg

The severely drained Papal forces could do nothing but avail themselves to the incoming onslaught.
None came to their aid.

18.jpg

The rest of the Church vassals knew that from that moment onwards, everything is about to change...

19.jpg

20.jpg

For the Greater Good.

XL - And there it is!

02.jpg

The Ravens slowly gathered their forces around the Golden Horde's perimeter, awaiting for the perfect opportunity for a strike.

01.jpg

It is time.

00.jpg

Onward, brothers!

04.jpg

03.jpg

Thousands of Drop Pods crashed into the Horde's army, catching them completely off guard. The Codex Astartes calls this maneuver, Steel Reign.

05.jpg

Outnumbered, the Horde's splintered army could not muster an effective resistance.

06.jpg

Thousands perished as one tenth of their invasion force left the realm on the living.
The Raven's bloody brilliance gave them the initiative, the Khan's army brace themselves for the charge as the trap is sprung in Lower Volga.

07.jpg

08.jpg

They shall suffer death and defeat five times greater than their Ilkhanates Ancestors.
The Ravens poured forth, dealing defeat after defeat to the scattered Horde.

09.jpg

10.jpg

11.jpg

Eventually the Horde army is left with barely 30% of their original strength.

12.jpg

Even the conquered regions began to revolt.

13.jpg

Seeing no chance for a victory, the Khan called for a humiliating truce.

14.jpg

The Adeptus Tactica studied this engagement intensively, and is ready to implement the next step to increase the recruiting yield from the worlds under the Imperium.

15.jpg

14,000 guardsman is raised in one massive training program dubbed, Operation Ravenous.

16.jpg

And now, time to deliver the second punch to the Khan.

18.jpg

19.jpg

The newly conquered lands folded quickly under the assault of the Ravens. The Khan's army itself is nowhere to be seen after scattering from an initial defeat.

20.jpg

21.jpg

Yet the Imperium shall not grant them any respite.

22.jpg

The Emperor, displaying the ruthlessness of his predecessor orders another assault to the already weakened Horde's territory.
The Khan mustered another 20,000 troops.

27.jpg

A mere 20,000 against the Emperor's finest is a joke.

23.jpg

They shall make a great sacrifice in His name.

24.jpg

The humiliated Khan swallows yet another defeat, losing 2/3 of his conquered territory in the process.

25.jpg

We've done enough... they will perish soon.
It is time to commune with God...

XLI - To Every Reaches
The Horde faces the end of its days. Its second invasion coming to a premature end.

01.jpg

Many would acknowledge that it was truly the Blood Raven's sole might that drove the horde away.
But many questioned the abrupt manner Rome fell under the Raven's banner.

02.jpg

But as of now, there is no other empire as strong as the Imperium of Persia.
Stretching from England to Khiva, the Empire is heavily involved in many more campaigns to bring the true Cross to every corners of the known world.

03.jpg

The remnants of the errant princes and counts of Rus is being put to the sword as soon as the Horde is wiped off the map.

05.jpg

Revolts are commonplace, but even his own kin failed to shake the Emperor's resolve.

06.jpg

Apollo Diomedes, an errant Prince who had fallen out of the previous Emperor's favor rose up against his former Empire.

07.jpg

He will not find it easy.
Elsewhere in Hungary, the war to install a new liege is well underway.

08.jpg

Even now, a fleet carrying the Emperor's Finest is headed westwards...

09.jpg

00.jpg

...in search of new lands.

XLII - Secrets of the Eternal Crusade

None can question the devotion of Emperor Alphonse, the destroyer of Golden Horde.
Under his rule, the Imperium of Persia brought Rome under its rule, and seems nigh unstoppable.
By all accounts that man was a Living Saint.
00.jpg

Yet no man is an immortal, and the entire Imperium plunges into mourning as he succumbed to old age.

01.jpg

His chosen successor, Benoit will have his work cut out for him, as pleasing the entirety of the Imperium is a massive task.

02.jpg

He finds his Empress wanting...

06.jpg

And acted accordingly.

The day of his coronation was also rudely interrupted by a declaration of war from an old foe.

03.jpg

Yet there is a strange sense of unison from his vassal, very unlike most new coronation of a successor, especially one who rules such a massive domain.
Benoit privately knows why.

04.jpg

No matter how much his vassals hated him, they will always lend their support when the Imperium is under threat from external forces. It is a contradiction. The forces who wishes to shatter the Imperium from the outside will only serve to strengthen it from the inside.

Wasting no time to address his faithful Templar Chapters and massive Guardsman retinue, the Emperor's instruction was clear: stay the course.

05.jpg

The wars against the Pagans of Rus will continue. And the Imperium will have a new Empress.

07.jpg

08.jpg

As every claims and holy crusades were pressed...

09.jpg

10.jpg

11.jpg

Even the great Northern Compliance Campaign, dubbed Operation Space Wolves was given the all-clear by the Emperor.
Its objective: Norway.

12.jpg

13.jpg

15.jpg

The ever-reliable Guardsman marched forth unopposed into the icy wastelands.
While in Antioch, the Emperor soothe the concerns of his Lord Governors over the overly harsh taxes.

16.jpg

While in northern Africa, the Crusade against the forces of Islam continues...

17.jpg

More threats appear within the Imperium, yet the Emperor rose to the challenge.

18.jpg

Battles after battles were won.

19.jpg

20.jpg

The Fatimids could not gain ground as waves after waves of their army were repelled.

22.jpg

23.jpg

Yet more fools continue to plot to shatter the Imperium, unaware that they only serve as an unifying force for the massive Empire.
It is evident that these threats bear very little chance in halting the Imperium's campaign, for the Emperor even dared to break treaties to expedite his expansions, this time the Muslims of Mauretania will pay the price.

24.jpg

As news of the Fatimids' surrender spread throughout the Imperium many jumped for joy and predicted the complete annihilation of the infidels in a counter-crusade.

25.jpg

However... to the surprise of many, the Emperor rejected the surrender.
Closer studies by historians and scholars alike deduced that the Emperor is wise to refuse such surrender - for had he done so, it will put an end to the unity that held the Imperium together. And hence the Fatimids were played for fools once more.

There will be no end to this Crusade.
Forever they shall be at war with the most powerful nation in existence, knowing that deep down - they've created a monster that they themselves could never hope to destroy.
The Persian Empire now exists like a Slaanesh to their Eldar.

With the Fatimid's 'unifying' war - the Imperium can afford to wage wars all across Europe, unrestricted by internal squabbles. Revolts and such are a minor concern, and dealt very quickly by the Templars, if not vassals' levies who are only too willing to lend their effort in the 'Eternal Crusade' that the Emperor has deviously maintained through fear mongering and propaganda.

'Vigilance above all!' the Town Criers would declare.
'For as long as the enemies of Christianity draw breath, there can be no peace,' Benoit chuckled after reciting those famous words himself.

26.jpg

The rest of Europe shall be molten, piece by piece into the forges of the Imperium.

27.jpg

And shaped by its master, Emperor Benoit of Antioch.

28.jpg

It shall be a Blade like no other.

29.jpg

Terrible shall be the fate of those who fall under it.

30.jpg

And blessed be the minds of those shielded from the truth of the Eternal Crusade

XLIII - Vigilance above all

Another year, another war.

01.jpg

Thousands raise their arms and pounced on Scotland as Emperor Benoit elects a more rightful heir in place.
Elsewhere, the Holy Roman Empire is struck dumb when a minor revolt turns into an all out war...

02.jpg

An easy victory was expected, yet no one counted on another Empire taking sides in this war.

03.jpg

Never before the Holy Roman Empire's sword clashed with another Christian Empire.
Elsewhere in Spain, the Emperor upheld his title as the self-proclaimed protector of Christianity.

04.jpg

08.jpg

Scotland falls as their newly appointed king swore fealty under the Persian Empire.

05.jpg

While near Bohemia, the revolt in Holy Roman Empire explodes into a full blown splinter of the once-mighty empire.

10.jpg

While this is happening, the Empire's citizen is reminded of the ever-present threat of the Muslims back home.

07.jpg

No doubt the dirty Fatimids, our eternal enemy is responsible for inciting this violence against the peace-loving Empire of Persia.

09.jpg

For as long as the enemy of Christianity still draws breath, there can be no peace.
