Brad can scream murder about pirates (and I think beta was quite bad), but it's out and you can scream murder about bland game. Perhaps it even surprises.

I will not have time to pirate it for a while, because I must catch all these borrowed games on my new PS3. (Considering I'm game developer with specialization on economic/society simulations and strategy games... I guess Brad would get a chance to do GalCiv IV right, if he'd listen. When I would have time to review it. But you know YAKUZA 4 AND PATCHINKO are taking my time, and you can't be game developer if you wouldn't have passion for computer games. Including pirating it.)

Looks as bland as it normally does. Brad fight harder. Disgaea would have prettier GFX than you if you will not step up your effort. (Actually it does already. But half of team left thus it kinda sucks.)

Brad was a member of this forum a while back. I hope he chimes in on what makes this pirate worthy

Did anyone from Codex buy it? It's been a while from release and there is surprising lack of posts with direct experience. (And also no let's play on youtube.)

It's OUT????

What the fuck!!!
The last gameplay stream I watched was a month ago and it was nowhere near completion, at least as far as promised features go

So, is this the first GalCiv game that is not boring uninspired shit that has no fun in it?
Well, I did have quite a bit of fun with GalCiv 2 for a while, colonizing planets, doing vile deeds, blowing things up and so on. But after a while each game began to pan out the same way and I lost interest. It wasn't helped by the limited number of other civs and their uninteresting leaders that lacked the pull of familiarity that games like Europa Univeralis have.

I've bought GalCiv3, but until I can be bothered to get it working under wine in linux or want to risk booting into Windows again (8 months and counting - probably a seething mass of updates and breakages awaits me) I'll just have to wait. Actually, if it's just GalCiv2 with fancy graphics and some tweaks I'm not sure I can drum up the enthusiasm to go through it all again.

The cardinal sin here is automatic ship combat, imo. You build your badass fleet, design it painstakingly and then... watch it fight. Yay.

For the record this game doesnt even have all the races of GalCiv2. It's missing like 4 of them (of course fagboy is benevolent enough to sell them as future dlc)

I bought it long ago. It is not ready for release. It is okay, but somewhat boring, and definitely lacking polish and numerous features. Diplomacy is awful.

I guess in this day and era a tactical combat similar to moo2 is too hard for todays developers, it will take another 20 years untill the developers rediscover how to make proper gameplay elements. Sometimes i wish windows was never made and we would still be in DOS era.

I bought it when it was -50%. I still can't play it though. Game keeps crashing when I try to use the combat viewer and the longer I play the game in one sitting (more than 30min lmao) it starts to have random freezing and slow downs. This is how the game was when I bought it, which is understandable for EA. But then I tried it again now and it's still like that. The game is a technical mess. Even the system reqs are insane for such a simple looking game. Stardock are nothing but incompetent idiots.

So it's a Stardock release?

I don't hate the guys, they seem to be willing to try and they make the kind of games I'd want to play.
But I learned the hard way not to expect anything from them, and I try to make good of such lessons.

I thought: "Wow so many pages of post just few hours after release, someone must like Brad." Then I discovered someone merged two threads.

Star Drive 2 is much better. I don't understand the metacritic scores--SD 2 gets shitty 50-70 scores, GC3 gets 90+ (!?) scores. Truly, the mysteries of the universe are many and profound.

Wait, I thought GalCiv 3 was going to have actual tactical combat?

There are threads about this on their forums, but I never saw the devs commenting on it. Their fanbase does the commenting for them. "When will people learn GalCiv is not fucking Total War?!" was a recurring answer. These people consider controlling your ships in battle a form of dumbing the game down.

Seems to me like the fans wanted a GalCiv 2 with updated graphics, and they received just that.

EDIT: let's just say a friend of mine from Somalia Tonga Costa Rica was kind enough to lend me his copy. Will write about the game sometime next week. Maybe.

Stardrive 2 is a worthless piece of garbage.
