I'm still convinced that if a game company or console manufacturer successfully develops a 100% crack proof DRM you wouldn't obtain an expansion of the market but only less people playing games.

While it's true that many people who can afford to buy video games prefer to pirate them out, when faced with the only choice of buying them at full price, they would probably switch to another hobby. Not to mention the ability to lend a game to a friend or resell it. I think that stripping the consumers of this ability would ultimately result in a drop in sales because even the people who spend real money would be more wary of their purchases.

Just look at the sales of Tom Clancy HAWX 2 for PC. It seems it was uncrackeable(im not sure if it still is though). Though it still woudn't work to see this as a whole because there is a world of pirateable PC games to play

But take out the ability to lend a game to a firend or resell it and many people will think twice before buying something. Day one purchases will suffer because, when you know you won't be able to return the game, or sell it at a discount, you will first look for feedback among friends and forums. Others will hold back on games they would, otherwise, have tried even if they aren't really their first choice.

We only have to wait a few months to test these theories. If the Xbox Infinity really has the draconian drm it's rumored to possess and if it bombs, then the anti-drm supporters will have one more valid argument.
