    <a href="http://gearhead.roguelikedevelopment.org/">Gearhead 2</a> has been updated to <a href="http://gearhead.roguelikedevelopment.org/gh2-0110-sdlwin.zip">version 0.110</a> of the sequel to the nifty stompy robot rogue-like. Here's a list of the changes:

    <ul><li>Added NoEscape special tag for personas (arenascript.pp)

    <li>Temporary mecha get the Faction ID of their pilots (arenaplay.pp) So, their mecha will display in the correct faction colors.

    <li>Added IfSkillTest, GrabRootScene ASL commands (arenascript.pp)
    <br>
    <li>Fixed movemode name bug in mecha description (description.pp)
    <br>
    <li>Added TERRAIN string attribute to rancon context (randmaps.pp)

    <li>Encounters now have effect radius of 1 (aibrain.pp)

    <li>Simplified the rumor formatting procedure (playwright.pp)

    <li>Power drained mecha can't use energy weapons well (effects.pp)

    As much as I loved Gearhead, I'm more interested in Nova City right now. Here's one example why. I imagine the development is linked and they're going to share a lot of features, though.

    For all of you not wanting to click...its a discussion of interactive story generation...i.e. how to let computers build expansive and reactive story arcs on the fly.

    Stop giving out parts of my design doc...next you'll find my Irish friend's paper on the OPIATE system ;)

    I'm fairly interested in Nova City as well, but that's primarily because there just aren't enough super hero CRPGs. Given the directions that Gearhead went with the stompy robot setting in terms of mechanics, I'm looking forward to how Pyro Guy handles the odd quirks of super heroes in a game with a lot of the concepts of Gearhead.
