Well, I finally really and truly tried Gearhead 2 and I like what I see so far. Only things I'd like to be fixed are the "fog of war" on some places. With isometric perspective it's fine, but it's annoying in 3rd person. The interface could be a bit better, too. Like when I right-click to bring up the advanced options menu, the text is just floating there. A plane behind it would be nice.

Otherwise, good job. Shows a lot of promise and I hope it can be realized.

What's the difference between Gearhead 1 and 2? Is 2 an actual sucessor to 1 or just some graphical upgrades or what? I briefly looked around for some info but couldn't find anything. Which probably means it's right in front of me...

2 has a lot of new stuff including new character gen stuff (family history more important, new personality types, factions to join etc), items, mechs, and a whole new perspective. Dialogues have improved and while the art style is still anime-ish, it's a lot more fleshed out so it's not as annoying as in the first game.

Playing GearHead in graphical mode is like... like... playing Gothic in ASCII.

I play Gearhead 1 in ASCII because I'm so used to the interface improvements it'd be hard to give them up. I tried playing GH2 in ASCII (don't really dig the over the shoulder cam) but I keep getting wacky errors asking me for SDL.DLL and the like.

I can't get Gearhead 2 to run on my system really. I'm getting like .000001 frames per second and it eventually barfs itself.

GH2 has performance issues. And my PC is average (P4 3,4GHz, 2GB DDR2 ram and ATI x800XT 256MB).

For a roguelike game, it should be more than enough, though.

Anyway, I still prefer the 1st GH.
