Yes I'm being serious. I could just 'take it' but besides the fact that its already gay to be bought a game i just dont like spending (other peoples) money for nothing.
I know it is 'herp derp the best RTS of all time herp derp' but what does the codex think of it?

The thing is i would have never thought of even trying it a month ago due to it being a RTS.. however ive gotten so used to the pace of LoL that maybe I could get used to and like this as well.
Basically Im asking: Could I as a more 'hardcore' (for lack of better word) TBS player like Company of heroes at all? Or will i blow up and kill my gf for even giving me the opportunity to play it?

Is it a good strategy game that just happens to be RTS?
Is it 'worth getting now' or is there some better 'version' out or soon to be released (sequel or better rip off)
Also (and this is important) does it still have a thriving multiplayer community?

It looks cool on youtube but meh.. maybe im just easy to sell to

Also what else do you recommend while we are at it

edit: oh and getting the 'free' version is not happening.. 7 gigs with my shitty Hawaiian connection.. nope

edit again: wait.. ToV is stand alone? If all im interested in is multiplayer does it matter if i only get ToV?

If you can enjoy LoL you can enjoy anything. CoH is a pretty fun game, I enjoyed the few multiplayer games I've had.

Yeah it's a fun game. Kinda short SP. Both expansions are stand alone but also include the original if you have the reg code. Expansions are pretty crap SP wise, and not really worth it unless you want whatever extra units they give in MP. As for strategy, um, well it's no Panzer General. It's an RTS with cover mechanics and great voice work, and same 'resource' gathering as in DoW.

It's fun. Fast-paced and offensive orientated (static turtling is generally unwise due to the point capturing system and effectiveness of artillery) but not dumbed down. Semi-realistic for an RTS (more than most but less than Men of War or Close Combat). Emphasise is on combat, and that's where most of the micro goes, instead of the traditional base building or economic management (though there is still some). Combat is more sensible than Star Craft and the like: shots to tank armour either penetrate or they don't (so no more infantry small-arm fire blowing up your tanks) with the sides and rear more vulnerable. Units using rifles are very inaccurate while moving while SMG fire is deadly at close quarters (note that just because a unit is in range doesn't mean that it's going to be effective at that range) which gives your infantry different roles.

Detailed and clear graphics (artillery especially looks cool and units look good no matter how zoomed in or out) with really nice audio (voice acting is perhaps the best and most varied I've ever heard, with situational responses).

Overall alot of fun to play with friends, though balance has been off for a while and seems unlikely to be fixed (upgrade system means Wehrmacht become unstoppable late game, allied tanks are an expensive joke, U.S and Brits suffer from most units sucking but a few being OP what leads to spam).

What about the PE ? I heard they were the most underpowered of the lot.

Supposedly they're very hard to pull off 1v1. Playing them I haven't had too much trouble (I only LAN with friends though, if enough people who regularly play multiplayer are saying they're bad, then they're bad) with them. I enjoy their mobility and ease of repair. Plus the 'Tankbuster' tree gets you lots of nice passive bonuses :D

They have the most boring voice acting though.

    It's a great game actually.

The terrain and cover has a very real effect on battles, unit weapon damage etc. is much more realistic than your Command & Conquer or Starcrap that everyone is so gay for, where one little dude with a machine gun can blow up tanks and buildings and where each side has an exact equivalent unit to the other.

There's some actual strategy and tactics involved beyond the usual "building a massive amount of units the quickest". Tanks have different armour plating on different sides as well (heaviest in front). Suppressing fire can pin your infantry down, anti-tank guns take out tanks pretty quickly, but can be quickly disabled by infantry or artillery strikes. Snipers are extremely deadly if properly used, bridges can be blown up and re-built and make excellent choke points, etc. Oh, and any infantry unit can pick up guns dropped by the enemies so you can have a team of normal riflemen equipped with machine guns, RPG's etc. or they can man FLAK 88's or anti-tank guns. It's also got pretty neat graphics and voice acting.

There's unlikely to be a even more complete complete collection, since I bought mine about 2 years ago and nothing new has been added since then.

Well there was a new patch not long ago.

I have played CoH from the first closed Beta years ago and i still play it randomly. Over all i don't fell there are any huge Balance issues for any side. There is a few things, but nothing OMG QQ.

Like the British call in tanks could be better, but over all most of the so called issues are more a matter of skill then it is balance.
Like the M10 is shit until you learn about turret turning speed and and how to micro them.
The King tiger is to powerful until you learn how to use M10's, AT guns and Sticky bombs to RAPE THEM!.
The Rifle men are to strong early game until you learn what ranges they are the most effective.
PE are to weak until you learn how to use the different tress and upgrades right.
Brits are to weak until you learn how to command the blob of murder and how to move you bases forward

    So on and so fourth.

Over all it is one of the best RTS games out there.

It is indeed the best RTS evar, not least thanks to the very active modding community.

For example, check out this one if you ever get bored of killing Kwans:
    http://www.easternfront.org/

In fact, I should reinstall it now that I have a PC that will run it at decent fps.

I got CoH and the first expansions. As RTS'es go, theyr'e quite fun.

The AI is decent(ish) as RTS AIs go. It relies a bit on scripting (many of th emissions are somewhat scripted), but it does act somewhat sensibly. For example, if you mine the approach to your base and the AI triggers the mines, it'll try finding a different approach instead of sending mass units down the same chokepoint.

I never got around to playing them multiplayer, except with my dad. He's still bitter about the time I lured his soldiers down a narrow street only to have a tank with a rotating mine flail burst through a thin wall and chewing up his entire army in seconds.

    It was spectacularly gruesome.

Ugh. Playing games with women is terrible. They usually suck at all but one game and it takes you maybe a week to catch up to their skill level at that one. Then you are constantly forced to play a game in a boring way so as not to injure her feelings. Turning playing games from something you enjoy to something that is a chore.

In the short and long run a much better activity to be doing with a girl friend is sex.

My experience is completely different except in the "playing games with woman is terrible" part.
When I discovered my (now ex) gf was addicted to counter strike I immediately proposed her a 1v1 game.
I don't really like CS but I played many other fpses and I never imagined she was into that kind of games (all I saw her play was plants vs zombies, flash and facebook games and shitty stuff like that) let alone be good at it so I was pretty confident I wouldn't get my ass handed to me.
Man what happened next...I never felt so humiliated in my life. She even let me frag her once or twice so I wouldn't feel as bad (which didn't work, on the contrary).

It's fun enough, though it suffers heavily from Relic having no idea what balance means. Also intro/outro videos for campaign are all "look it's Saving Private Ryan the computer game" which got tedious pretty fast.

Did you use 2 seconds on the game then run your head into the wall and make a loud retarded noise?

What Balance issues are there? Yes there are a few, but nothing huge.
The Intro outro movies where all well made and interesting , but i guess to try and earn some KKK points you have to play all edgy and shit.

Sounds like you forgot the part where you play it for a week and catch up to her.

Also, you were playing CS 1v1...

Soldiers: HoWW2/ Faces of War / Men of War are a better idea.

I'm sorry but RTS are all too '90s. Meaning that CoH could've been a good game but it's deliberately ruined by the shitty RTS basebuilding-unit spawning gameplay.

There are good missions though that play like SHoWW2/FoW/MoW - but I could never bring myself to finish the game because of how terrible RTS missions are (basically whoever spams units faster wins - zero tactics, zero strategy)

I mean RTS were good when they were new, but now that we have dozens of them that play the same (and CoH is no different when it comes to RTS part of it) - it's really horrible.

Games I've named may suit you better if you want open maps with limited assets and freedom on how to use them - in fact SHoWW2 is the game CoH ripped off cover-gameplay from.

HoWW2 is not a RTS it is in the sub genre RTT.

Are you serious? Axis is 100x better than Allies in multiplayer and it's not particularly close. I guess It's better than Dawn of War balancing though this time they were only doing 2 sides instead of a whole bunch.l

Movies might be well made but it's all stuff I've basically seen before. Doesn't add anything to the experience, seemed to me like it was just cliche bullshit, but I guess to each his own.
