For those who liked Ashes 2063, a "prequel" expansion developed by ReformedJoe has been released.

I can't post any screenshots yet as I have some issues with the game (perhaps the problem lies with gzdoom version I am using).
While the locales sound interesting I have to say that the level design is not as tight as that of Ashes 2063 itself.

For those who are interested it can be downloaded here; https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=62707

Ashes 2063 files are required to run this.

MusicallyInspired has released his Roland Sound Canvas SC-55 recordings of Heretic's sound track yesterday: http://sc55.duke4.net/games.php#heretic

I remember that he said in the dedicated thread at Duke4.net that he did some additional work on those MIDI tracks to prevent instruments from cutting out, which apparently is normally a problem. I'm not sure why he added loop-tags and fade-out endings, though, as those tracks were never looped seamlessly.

Edit: According to MusicallyInspired in this thread, both Heretic's and Hexen's music were both composed on a Sound Blaster card: https://forums.duke4.net/topic/2505-roland-sc-55-music-packs/page__st__270__p__310528#entry310528

Anyone got any suggestions for DOOM wads that have RPG elements (dialog, exploration, non-linear level design, non-violent NPCs)? STRIFE is one of my favorite games of my childhood. I replayed it recently and it arose in me a craving to play more games similar to it.

https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=57621&sid=773669ddc212fabadf6cab204f985d0d There's a hexen mod called Scattered Evil with all of that. It was heavily inspired by strife, so much so they take dialogue and voice clips from it.

You can choose your class, alignment, level up stats, explore a hub based open world, etc.

There's also Memoirs of Magic. Which is kind of in contrast to Scattered Evil in that it takes a more JRPG style approach. Similar open world but no hub. Has a great co-op mode

You need a hexen wad for Scattered Evil.

Not sure if this has ever been posted here, but this is an interesting series of commentary on the design and history of doom wads.

Not a Doom wad but it is somewhat Doom (and Wolfenstein) related and it could be of interests if people who like classic Doom and isometric games. I don't think it is turn based though.

The 2018 Cacowards actually look good this year. I remember checking out last year's list and there was nothing I wanted to play. But this year... well, it reinforces my opinion that the Doom modders' community is still the best in the world :salute:

Is there any kind of guide to getting GZDoom to look like proper Doom?

For example the dynamic lighting from weapon fire seems completely absent and I can't figure out how to fix it. Setting the openGL settings to sector light mode "Doom", "Vanilla", or "Software" don't see to do anything. There's a really small, barely noticeable light up when I shoot, but nothing like Doom should have (I remember as a kid being scared of dark areas so I'd idkfa and just run through with the chaingun or plasma gun held down so I could see).
