Apparently there's a forum post over on the JoWood forums, which appear to be down now, stating that Infogrames will now handle the publishing for Gothic 2. Release dates for the title worldwide should follow eventually.

I'm just waiting for Infogrames to declare a monopoly on the CRPG market.

This is also a news item at GameSpot. Smells true to me.

Heh, and I saw Gothic 2 on the shelves in a store today... but I told myself "No! You gotta finish PS:T, then tinker with Fallout Mapper, and then study! You'll have your holidays for both Gothics!" I wonder how long will it take me to change my mind...

Hm, are French companies [Ubi, Infogrames, Vivendi] all but dominating the game market [except for EA, but EA = crap anyway]
... or is it just me?

Once Infrogrames buy rights to the GURPS system and then SPECIAL from the crumbled ashes of Interplay/Black Isle, then they'll have the monopoly. Perhaps on Troika's next game they could say choose your module, AND your ruleset. One can only hope...

I wouldn't say any of them are dominating. Vivendi want out, Infogrames have lost a lot of money, and Ubisoft have never been particularly inspiring, so their recent success with overrated games like Splinter Cell is bound to be short lived.

At least Infogrames have shown some initiative by taking up a lot of RPGs. It's a neglected market, not because it isn't popular, but because most of the decision makers are idiots.

Don't forget that Ubi releases tons of crap console games (which then sell well, but then again, it's console games we're talking about :P) and just launched Shadowbane (which got good reviews, so far... in fact it's the only MMORPG on the market right now I'd consider playing), Vivendi owns Sierra and Blizzard, among others, and Infogrames is Infogrames. ;)

Vivendi is also pretty confident about its game publishing business making moola. [yeah, there was that talk about M$ assimilating Vivendi in Jan... nothing came out of it, apparently]

You'll also note I didn't mention Titus.
hey, Titus the Fox was a cool game, back in the early 90s... ow, stop hitting me!

I prefered Prehistoriks and Blues Brothers :). In Titus I got stuck on I think 9th level - it was damn hard to play on a 386, it was too fast.

Prehistorik ruled, but it wasn't as cool as BC Bill. BC Bill was as open ended as a motherfucker. However much that may be...

Still, at least Infogrames appear to be taking steps in the right direction of trying to resurrect the RPG market, and give it more flavour and variety. They don't seem to be stagnating, and they've published some really great games recently (Civ 3 springs to mind, though it's not so recent).

The next person to say "Ubi Soft Sucks" without a "IL-2 was great" will be impaled by the forces of god in the next life.

Ubi Soft sucks regardless of anything else they've made. They suck for Battle Realms alone.

Battle Realms was probably one of the better RTS's I've played. It had a few horrible problems going against it though, namely the really shitty hardware support that caused the game to crash on many computers and graphics cards. Saint had this problem, if I recall correctly. Liquid Entertainment wasn't given enough funding to release the patches in a months time fo the game's released, though they were eventually released 8 months later.

It was also ugly, but I didn't mind.

There were tons of balance issues, most of which have been addressed in the Winter of the Wolf expansion pack. It's a pity that they took so long to address them. EA managed to fix most of the game imbalance issues less than a month after the release of C&C Generals.

It wouldn't run 10 minutes for me without crashing, and they never patched that.

I have a similar problem with Warcraft III, which kills me because I like that game.

Same here for MTW and Shogun for Savegames- though with STW it looks to be anytime.

hey

You should check Blizzards support site, most likely if you have a problem some kid already told Blizzard and they have the solution up. Blizzards games are usually pretty damn stable.

I've already tried all sorts of shit for this, and have given up on it. I still managed to finish the games with something of a temporary fix, so I'm okay with it.

What the hell's up with excellent RPGs not getting American publishers to distribute them? Is distributing a finished product really that huge a money sink and risk? Especially with these games that have been criticially acclaimed and sold decent prior (alhtough not stellarly) ...

For example, Wizardry VIII. It's the EIGTH game in a series and it was in limbo, completed, for what, half a year before it fnially came out. And now Gothic II is sort of floating around even though Infogrames finally picked it up, but it was suppose to be out at least a month or two ago here.

Arrrgh.
