Unrelated to the above exchange, apparently the Dragons' HP regen in Gothic 2 is tied to the FPS.

This would be an interesting situation for people playing unlocked and getting "hundreds" of FPS, effectively making it impossible to kill them short of one-hitting.

Anyway, this would be an interesting situation -- "How do I defeat the dragon? It's HP regen is too fast." > "Try to run like 10 porn vids at the same time in the background to kill your FPS."

Just min max your Paladin to 276 str problem solved. It was a shame they made stats hard capped going forward in the Risens, no fun allowed.

Severance, a game that came out a month before G1, did most of those aspects I mentioned before so well that even today it still has a great combat system (better than anything by FROM).

Attacks looks extremely delayed and telegraphed https://youtu.be/DRuudjlr7RA?t=4379

So while Nosferatu migth not be able to use seduction (and other powers), and there will certainly be quests where this class is big disadvantage to the player, the quest can still be completed with him but through other means - even if they don't wield ideal results. And there will also be quests where he is the class with less difficulties in succeeding, as well as content that he can only complete because said content is specifically tailored for him and no one else.

I Never said that shold be enemies using levitation that can only be hit at range. Only that a melee guy should try to engage in a squad of crossbowmans using intelligent tactics, not a mindless charge like happens in most games.

-----------------------------

But we are in a circle. For me immersion is what makes Gothic great and for you, being a good action game is everything who matters...

Could be worst. There was games tied to the CPU speed...

How you can reach 276 STR as a Paladin? On normal or NotR?

My Templar on Gothic 1, with potions, rings, etc only reached 130... Don't get me wrong, i could 2HK a Orc Warrior with him, he was very strong BUT i wonder how much damage it would deal on G2...

Definitely reached the 270 range for sure in vanilla g2 on my minmax run, get strength to 100 then do all the strength increasing alchemy, praying at shrines, eating all them apples for 1 strength, consumed all placed potions in the world, bonus from dialog with some npc IIRC, rings, et cetera. Was very cheesy seeing how much damage a swing took off boss.

Delayed, no. The moves begin immediately after the inputs.
As for telegraphed, I am must ask you again.
What do you mean by telegrahphed? That the player can "read"/estimate how the enemy will attack based on the wind ups and signals an animation gives?
Because that is a very good thing for action system.
And in Severance cause they are on point. Not too quick and not too long.

For me immersion is what makes Gothic great and for you, being a good action game is everything who matters...

For the love of god... I never said that.
Again, I said that the pursuit of immersion shouldn't be a detriment to the gameplay. And you can have a combat on the level of For Honor's quality and still have an immersive game.

Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
and here i thought i was a gothic enthusiast, all my bethestard/twitcher friends are fed up about me constantly bringing it up - even had to fight over this very avatar with another newbie when i finally joined the forum

but you two make the design by committee of the demo seem more sensible than actually having to listen to the real fans - this is pure autism

One thing that makes me rage is. Console games who receive remake/remaster get a similar experience to the base game. See Crash remake vs original and even Resident Evil. Hell, even rumors of Demon Souls that make me wanna a P$5. Why PC players only get a awful Gothic remake that put ALL ARCANIA BULLSHIT and all modern BS???? After ArcaniA din't the devs learned the lesson?

Nobody wanna Dialog Wheel, Sponge 5 minutes to kill a wolf combat, immersion breaking questmarkers, dissociation of inventory and the world, no animation/time to drink potions, dialog whee limiting how much dialog they can showl, and according to a reddit user who claims to be able to access magic whith cheat engine, will be cooldowns on the rune magic. Why? HOW many arcania clones we need before a proper gothic game????

Because it reeks of "designed by a committee" approach which generally relies picking up on what's currently present in other similar, big time titles and emulating it. Or even worse case this was the only way developers could please the investors aka get the funding they need. For Honor combat system is the weirdest inclusion for me, though.

Show me one. Just one game with very "arcadeish" melee combat with telegraphs, stamina bar, etc who is actually a immersive game like VtMB, Gothic 1, etc.

Among the piranha bytes games, people consider Gothic 3 with the best magic/archery and Risen 1 with the best melee. I would love to see G3 magic in another game BUT on G1 it will not work due obvious reasons.

Yep. But looks to CRASH of PS1 remaster. They only improved the graphics. Din't re writed all platforming because "modern games are not used to platforming'...

There's nothing "arcadish" about telegraphs. It's a necessary aspect in action gameplay for the player to able to properly "read" oponents. Having attacks coming out of left field without any kind of signal or momentum to them (the so called anticipation in animation), is bullshit design. Damn even in real fencing you can figure by the figthers body language, how they are going to attack. And since videogames are already an exageration of reality, animations themselves also benefit from some form of exageration.
Stamina systems are a great fit for these types of slower paced, more thoughtful combat systems. The layer of management it introduces, punishes those who don't want to understand and learn system, and in the best iterations of this mechanic (like For Honor and Nioh) rewards the players who took their time to master it, with the ability to exert a tremendous influence on the oponents stamina. Besides flailing weapons around in 15kg of gear would constitute intensive physical exercise.

Correct me if I am wrong, bit it seems for you immersion means a grounded believable game world?
IMO immersion is to connect to the PC in such a way that you can disregard "gamey" aspects and game world inconsistencies. As such I think you can have a game that's immersive simply by it's mechanics.

Still, without thinking much about it, 2 games that would fit that bill are Dark Souls and Kingdom Come.

One says that % damage reduction breaks immersion because a tall orc will do the same damage to a full plate with a hammer as he will with a sword. The other says that flat damage reduction breaks immersion because you can hit something with a huge piece of metal and do 0 damage. Which one is right, which one is wrong? Both, and neither, because immersion is some abstract bullshit and everyone will claim what they like is the one thing that is totally immersive anyway.
Meh. Just make different rules for each type of damage the armor has to mitigate. If it's the slash of a sword then use AC (it hits the weak/unprotected spot of the armor for full damage or don't for nuts), if it's a contundent blow of a hammer use % reduction (the armor absorbs part of the impact) and if it's a piercing bolt use flat reduction (if the bolt is strong enought to pierce the armor it will do damage reduced by the thickness of the armor and if not do nothing). Give to each armor these three values, or only two if it is useless against a certain type of damage? Just give them what makes sense for their material and design.

There, it's more immersive. "Abstract bullshit" my ass.

When this came out I couldn't believe what pure garbage I had just witnessed. It's like they did everything upside-down. Protagonist is a pirate wannabe who NEVER SHUTS UP, has nothing in common with the original hero who was just a normal dude trying to survive. Diego acts like a "father figure" when in fact doesn't give a shit about you in the beginning. Awful console combat. Fighting DRAGON SNAPPERS in the first 10 minutes. Cutscenes (!!!!). Abysmally bad frame rate that is not justified by the graphics. Lolwtf lensflare from torches. Idiotic armor designs. "Epic" landscapes as if every square inch of the terrain needs to have small little details that prevent the map from being readable (a cancer of modern gaming). Is ArcaniA all over again.

Just forget about this and wait for History of Khorinis and Chronicles of Myrtana instead.

Fucking cunts.

Let's calm down. It's a playable teaser, not a demo of the full version. What we see is not what we get. I'm sure they'll desecrate the corpse of the original Gothic in quite different ways that we can't even imagine yet.

True, we might even get some good memes out of it.

Dark Souls has one of the BEST connections of game mechanics and lore. A random ring description says that a boss is blind? You can use it in your favor. But DS has his fair share of bs mechanics like rolling to evade lightning. Dark Souls is amazing because in a day and age where RPG games was removing attributes, character building, choices and consequences, etc; dark souls come with a true ARPG experience.

This is nothing like a Gothic remake that guess what. Gothic 1/2/3 should be more immersive (ie - a believable well made fictional world ) than dark souls. Animals act like animals on Gothic, the real animals and the fictional animals. Eg, shadowbeasts avoid blighter areas. You can use recent dead corpses to separate carnivorous beasts from his pack, enemies alert before attacking(...)

Anyway, you are the UNIQUE guy that i saw who liked the idea of for honor combat for gothic...

Here is a extremely controversial opinion. THQ Nordic should hire BeamDog to do the "enhanced edition" of Gothic

Sure, we will end up with afrocybernazi companions and other BS but at least will be no awful dialog wheel, uncharted cutscenes, questmarkers, controller focused UI, bullet spongee enemies, for honor combat, etc.

I strongly disagree with the point that he made about for honor combat when he says that most fights on gothic are 1v1. Sleeper's Temple has hordes and hordes of undeads to be slain. The sunken tower too. On chapter 2, you face a lot of minecrawlers and black goblins. On chap 3, a lot of enemies getting the focus stones(black goblins, trolls, snappers, harpies, and hordes of undeads). So any combat they they decide to use NEEDS to take into account hordes of enemies, dogs/woves, orcs, skeleton, magic, bow, crossbow(...) And For Honor was not made with it in mind.

And the game is too console focused with tons of handholding...

The combat was 1vs1 even if you had multiple ennemies. You're sword didn't even hit the ennemies that weren't locked, that's how bad it was.

It is the only shitty Mandelor video. A bunch of retards that never played the game are talking about their impressions of it. The only decent one was the last dude, the one that joked to never had played the game. The rest are a bunch of people that never really played or cared about Gothic games.

Mandalore has been slipping for a while now. I'd say his quality has been going down since he opened his patreon. It's a shitty situation because while he does seem like a nice dude and he's actually made some pretty good vids, there isn't much difference between a nuMandalore video and whatever garbage GGGmanlives puts out weekly.
