There's a 459 MB demo up for grabs of <b><a href="http://www.headupgames.com/conpresso/_rubric/index.php?rubric=DE+Games+GREED+Spiele-Info" target="blank">Greed: Black Border</a></b>, a German "hack'n'slay" title from the <a href="http://www.clockstone.com/WebCMS/sites/DE/index.php?area=products&section=game&site=1" target="blank">makers</a> of such classics as Avencast and Boar Hunting. Get your taste at <a href="http://www.worthdownloading.com/download.php?gid=4478&id=20815" target="blank">Worthplaying</a> or <a href="http://www.atomicgamer.com/files/82525/greed-black-border-demo" target="blank">AtomicGamer</a>. The full game should be hitting bargain bins around December 10th.

I'm not sure what those screenshots are, but that's not Greed. This is:

I wanted to like it, as the company is active on their forums and seem like pretty nice guys, but the demo didn't do it for me. The control was awkward (can only dodge with the keyboard, normal movement requires mouse clicking).

I really dug Avencast though, even though nobody played it.

Balancing in the early levels is horrible. With a lvl 5 char you find tons of stuff that is for lvl 14.
The last map in the cave (lvl 18) though was pretty nice. Graphics is pretty nice too. But the gameplay itself is half baked at best.

Yeah, Avencast kind of stood out because of the direct control and combo system, the combat was fast paced and visceral, as dodging and strafing projectiles/using cover etc. was really important to doing well.

This one just seems kind of generic. In what I played of the demo, it didn't really look like there was anything to make this game stand out.

Hopefully the company doesn't go under due to this one... :( That'd be too bad.
