What’s after beta?.
I go back to releasing updates for all three platforms, working on new features across the board.

Btw, i just bought the lair ware ULTIMA 3 for Mac OS. (I bought the code to unlock full version $5). Now I need a good Mac emulator. Will Mac emulators possibly work with GC or does libretro have that possibility. I’m still reading and the thought just occurred to me.
I don't know of any macOS emulators and none that have been ported to LibRetro. If you wanted to play Ultima 3 in split screen I would use dosbox or the NES version. Alternatively arrange GC and Ultima side-by-side on your mac desktop.

So if we have v3 pro we need to update to v4? Man, I need to pay more attention to my email notices.

Ever since v4 launched in October 2016 you've been able to upgrade for a discount but hardly anyone does that now (as you might expect) and I reckon it's probably time to let this last remnant of v3 go. Didn't want to do it without giving any last hold-outs (or people returning to the software after a hiatus) a few weeks notice however :)

Update v4.3.0 is now available!
  • LibRetro support to emulate a wider range of consoles and computers (Windows only)
  • Terrain Snipper tool to remove half tiles from the terrain.
  • Lots of bugs fixed!
It's taken a huge amount of work to add LibRetro support, Enjoy!

To finish off the next update, I'm working on a complete re-write of the text/label tool. I know a lot of people use this for tabletop gaming, so this will make for some prettier maps.

I for one uses it for D&D and such ! Thanks.

This is a bit of a humble brag but I was shocked to see that most of the tabletop mapping software like Inkarnate and Wonderdraft, etc. have only a limited selection of fonts available. I've got it working (at least on Windows as I write this) with all the fonts installed on my machine. Obviously they do different things to GC but it's beneficial to compete / compare with 'rivals' to make sure we're the best :)

I still need to figure out adding curvature to the text and some other nice features like outlines and shadows, but it's already significantly better than the the current label tool so it should be a big improvement to the Pro edition.

TBH for most mapping I use a paid program, Campaign Cartographer 3. That being said, I like using yours to map out dungeon with their detailed interest.

How many pixels per grid cell do you need for that to look good when printed to 1"?

Is there a place that shows all the features and games for this?

There's an overview of the main features here: http://gridcartographer.com/compare/

If you're on Windows you can also use LibRetro to play pretty much any emulated game from the 8, 16 and 32 bit eras (nothing 3D accelerated) and Nintendo DS.
Currently 30 games support the Game Link feature, there's no a list online but it's basically many versions of Wizardry, Might and Magic 1 - 3 and a few others like The Dark Spire and Eye of the Beholder 1.

Happy to answer all questions, unless it's "why do you suck at promotion?"

I'm not really picky, tbh. I just need a quick export function that scales everything to 1". Right now what I'm doing is exporting, then editing in Photoshop. It'll be a nice QOL feature to be able to export to 1" with just the click of a few buttons.

Okay so I've learned a lot about pixels per inch today :)
The next update sets the PPI meta-data of the PNG/BMP image to the tile size - so 1 tile = 1 inch.

This doesn't give you much room on a piece of A4 but it'll do as a default.

I don't have access to a printer right now but I trust the Photoshop print-preview is probably correct:

Here's the file exported from my current WIP build, you should be able to load this up and hit print without the extra step to set the print resolution.

Can you test this and post a picture next to a tape measure ?

Hey I might have a possible bug. I say possible because it might be my computer rather than the program. I'll put things chronologically so it's easier to understand:

1. I put Grid Cartographer 4 map save file on my dropbox.
2. I go on vacation with my laptop and work on a map for my DND game.
3. I come back from vacationa nd finish the map on my PC.
4. I open the map on my laptop for my DND game and it doesn't show the latest version.
5. I try to export the file on my PC deskop to send it electronically to my laptop. I check to make sure the file is okay and it is, it's the most recent one.
6. I download it on my laptop, and it keeps opening the old one.

Is there a chance that there is a bug that re-target the same file or something ? Or it's just my computer that's all fucked up ? Thanks.

To me it sounds like Dropbox is causing the problem here. You wouldn't be the first person to report a problem like this (or worse) and the answer be dropbox sync.

edit: I would just double check you're opening the file from the file open box, not the recent files list - and make a note of the file path that shows in the status bar after loading / saving - to verify the correct path.
