I lack the wit to put something hilarious here
It ran out of steam towards the end, though. I remember seeing the creator post the first strip on the Steam forums and someone telling him to get a website.

There are some SP mods out there. Many have died though, including a very promising Nightfall, which was a shame.

Give Mistake of Pythagoras a whirl. Its quite a bizarre adventure.

I know everyone has a right to their own opinion, but really? You gotta be kidding me. I loved Q2 so I bought Q4 blind. Played for 4-6 hours and simply uninstalled bored. Tried and failed to sell the heap of shit on ebay. HL2 was fantastic fun. Played though twice and got both the episodes.

Good you liked HL2 because you wouldn't have been to sell it if you wanted to.

don't worry, someone's just bucking for a special title, but I like HL1 MUCH better than HL2.

I honestly don't know if I like 1 more than 2. HL wins, hands down, in terms of weapon and enemy variety - weapon selection in HL2 was kind of bleh - sure, grav gun was fun (if a little gimmicky), same with rebar x-bow (though, apart from nailing enemies to walls, HL x-bow was more cool), I also enjoyed the pulse rifle, although it was basically more powerful SMG. All the other weapons had their counterparts in HL, though the SMG was underpowered in HL2. Still, in HL1 you had two experimental weapons, two alien ones and two more kinds of explosives. If you count the OF arsenal as well, the comparison becomes even more unfavourable towards HL2.
Same with enemies - various kinds of aliens with different behaviour and morphology were nothing short of awesome in HL.

On the other hand, I liked the sceneries in HL2 more (only Xen had those beaten, through sheer alien factor), there were actual characters and the game had this cool cinematic feel. Also, while the enemy variety was much greater in HL, the synths in HL2 were quite unforgettable, especially towering striders with their warp cannons and scanners as their remote eyes.

    well, my reasoning is this:
HL1 & 2 are on rails more or less. You are forced down a primary path with maybe 1 or 2 small side paths, however, the environment and feeling of HL1 felt to me like it did a better job of masking that while in HL2 it felt like I was surrounded by 300' electrified fences with signs hanging every so often saying ENEMY SPAWNS RIGHT HERE!

Secret military complexes? In an FPS? That's pretty innovative.

They should add some aliens and chicks wearing bikinis pole dancing too, that would make a new genre of fps games.

What can I say? There's a difference between making a military complex map which is just an excuse to put crates with weapons everywhere and making a military complex map which looks like military complex.

HL2+expansions is complete shit. Crappy AI, shitty driving sequences, easy difficulty, unskippable cutscenes, story that has went absolutely nowhere even after a whole game and two expansions while being filled with pointless drama (HL2 is the video game equivalent to the show Lost) etc. all combine to create a total failure of a shooter.

PS. Halo 3 is a shooter that came out after 2004 that is better than Half Life 2. Prove me wrong.

Yeah sewers are a pretty innovative new place for an FPS to go. Much better than dog shit boring science facilities like in Portal.

I didn't like HL2 much because the guns and enemies sucked. It's more fun than Doom 3 but I liked Quake 4 better.

    That comic is not funny.

Uh....can I just agree? Half-Life 2 was a massive disappointment. Instead of being like sequels to other great "shooters" that made themselves better by adding more mechanics, more depth, and such (Shock 2, N.O.L.F. 2, Hitman 2, etc.) Half-Life 2 gave you less than it's predecessor, with adding in the forced narrative the first was praised for removing, giving you less weapons, worse enemy design, and a focus on graphics and gimmicks.

I wonder if we come from the same universe here. In my universe the only HL that had any cutscenes whatsoever was BS.

Dr. Kleiner's lab and other such sections of the game are just long, unskippable cutscenes as far as I'm concerned. Sure, your movement isn't restricted like typical cutscenes, but they're still fundamentally not that different. In both cases, you're not capable of any meaningful interaction and all you're doing is just waiting for the sequence to play out on its own. Everyone touts it for its supposed immersion factor but I fail to see it. Only real difference is that rather than just sit and watch, you now have the option to run and jump around like an idiot (which the other characters don't notice or respond to) while the cutscene is playing. IMMERSHUN+++

Forcing players to sit through these sequences is not what shooters are about.

Never said the original HL didn't have them. But from what I recall, the beginning with the tram ride is the only one. Plus, it had the added benefit of being fresh and new at the time (even though I think its mostly just a gimmick ultimately).

Meh... maybe I'm just not up to date with what makes a good shooter, but I loved HL2.

I liked the whole environment and the diversity of gameplay. I especially enjoyed the Water Hazard and Highway 17 levels, but there are many parts I remember fondly.

I wasn't impressed by the weapon selection, and I hated how they controlled ammunition, especially for the rocket launcher. What a great decision that I always need an ammo crate to destroy a Strider or Gunship!
Oh, and the Strider at the end of Episode One was especially fun. I actually managed to destroy it too soon... and my reward was a fucking replacement! I love how they rewarded my extra effort by negating my achievment because I didn't do it right. Fuck you, Valve!

Still, overall I like HL2 alot more than HL. I started playing HL about half a dozen times and I always stop playing at some point out of sheer lack of motivation. I feel neither excitement nor challenge; I am not interested in the story either.
