Try Planescape Torment OP it's pretty actiony and almost has no text.

Strangely enough, I actually enjoyed playing Planescape:Torment immensely, but I never came to finishing it due to an annoying virus which came on the computer that I had it installed. All of you are giving some really great suggestions for RPGs to play, I thank you all for that and I'm honestly very grateful for using your precious time to help me, but with all honesty, nobody has really answered my first question, which was some advice to the complex character creation of the DOS RPGs(most of them are pretty similar, except for a of them having slightly different character creation screens). Also, I'd really like it if some of you people would address me with respect just the same way that I'm doing right now.

Ask about the character creation of a specific game for specific answers. For a general answer, I believe someone already suggested checking out the first part of a walkthrough if you don't have any idea which skills are useful after reading the manual.

Not true btw, as that question was answered a few short posts into the thread with the following:

A little blunt? Yes, but quite frankly that's the best answer you'll be getting unless you're looking for help with a specific game and not a generic 'Hardcore DOS RPG'. Seriously, the information and answers you're looking for will be in the manual, and if not there then in an accompanying book, as I guess you've already noticed the lack of tool-tips ingame.

Actually manuals may not be the most trustworthy source for help because they'll never tell you if a skill is actually fucking useless, for example. Better to get tips from a walkthrough's beginning.

Sometimes they do. Take, for example, Megatraveller's manual.

Since I really liked Wizardry 8, I thought that it'd be best if I followed Octavius' advice and played Wizardry 6, import to 7, then import to 8. All I want to know right now is how to build a good well-rounded and balanced party that can get me through these 3 games with ease(what skills should I spend on, what skills shouldn't I spend on, good classes to pick etc.). Please, I really need some character creation advice on Wizardry, as I really wanna play through the series(or at least the last 3 games of the series).

Creating the "perfect" party in for Wiz 6-8 is an almost inexhaustible source of debate, like for example this thread.

Hm. You should remember just one thing - changing class in the Wiz8 eventually is a very bad idea. Changing class in a Wiz6/Wiz7 - OH GOD IT'S HEAVAN.
And take fairy character. You will thank me in the Wiz7.
EDIT: Also what octavius said. I was too lazy to find thread myself ;)

Definitely needed in Wiz 7, to get the skills you need.

Class changing in Wiz 6 is not that important, but useful if you can't start as an elite class (Samurai, Ninja, Monk, Lord). In fact spending the first 4-5 levels as a basic class and then switching is probably optimal to get a skill boost without spending too much XP.

Yeah, a Fairy Ninja rules. Unsurpassed AC and good resistances.
An Elf Ranger is also a good race+class combo to be able to wield a unique weapon.
And starting with a Bard is highly recommended for the free Sleep spell.

Yeah, that's why if I'm trying out an older game with lots of skills, I check out the walkthrough to see what classes/skills/races/etc is recommended. The manual will only act like every one is a viable option. While I don't like the idea of ignoring entire classes because they aren't optimal, I do get annoyed finding out a skill is completely useless.

So, it is a double edged sword. In RoA, I kind of ruined my experience by finding out the Sylvan elf is the best one and that the other ones are rather pointless compared to them, but I also saw that a large swath of skills are utterly useless, others are used once, and others are critical.

Negative. Better to get to the end of the game only to discover you have to start over because you only then realized your characters were built horribly wrong. :smug:

This is kinda unfair. As soon as he stopped saying "I don't understand cooking" and went "should I put ketchup into my bolognese" people were more than happy to help.

And I mean, just look at that first post.

ETA: Also, the post below mine.

Indeed. I doubt many of the Codexers played most of the games in the sticky.
