There's a preview of Hammer & Sickle over at GameShark. I can't say too much about it, because I stopped reading it after the first paragraph. Here is that paragraph:

Trying to analyze unfinished software is tricky. Take Hammer and Sickle, a tactical strategy-role-playing hybrid from developer Nival Interactive and publisher CDV. After tooling around with a playable Alpha build of the game, it's clear that it has a ton of potential, but it's so rough around the edges that all you can do is hope that Nival cleans it up before its release later this year.

This is why idiots shouldn't be given alphas.

Does he even know what an Alpha is?

Gee, maybe its something rough around the edges to be cleaned up later in I dunno, the Beta?

Apparently he thinks it is a tiny demo or something.

It is very difficult - on hard level all enemies are "maxed out", they hide, intercept and make your life miserable ;)

So, is the general Ruskie concensus here that this game kicks serious ass?

Definitely, at least that's my opinion, the game has its small flaws, but it does kick azz

Well, I can see what he's saying about playing it being frustrating due to the unfinished nature of the preview alpha build.. But.. It's an ALPHA. It's just supposed to be there to give the person an idea of what the full game is going to be like once it's finished. It's not there to say, "Man, this thing is buggy as hell! I hope they finish it in the six months they have left before release!"

I'm just wondering here... H&S went gold in May, if memory serves. So what's with that Alpha thing? The only issue that could be alpha'ed at this stage should be the English translation/voiceovers. Unless the Russian customers were shafted and the game will ship worldwide with a shitload of added content. Neat, or what?

I seriously suspect that that alpha he's talking about is, in fact, the SS:S mod it all started from.

It's most likely a press demo build that was translated. It's easier to translate an older press demo than it is to translate the whole game and then make a press demo out of that.
