Luckily he doesn't know anything. Otherwise he'd know that's for every free worker every turn, not just every turn.

Haha oh man, yes. And because the code is chopped up the game usually has a really roundabout method of looking for free workers, too.

If you like Final Fantasy Tactics, you want to play Wesnoth. It's freesource, and it's absolutely awesome. Insanely good game.

...if you consider being at the mercy of RNG "fun".

    JA2 if you're a ADHD graphix whore, JA1 if you're a real man.

OP have you played Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri, if not then play it.

I wouldn't worry about Jagged Alliance 2's UI. It's aged very well indeed. Though some things require keyboard shortcuts (walking backwards, for example)

Expeditions: Conquistador might be something worth trying if you want something with HoMM like map exploration.

No. It's a great game for tactical combat, but the strategy layer is mostly a nice support for that, not the focus of the game and not really engaging on its own. Genuine strategy games and JA2 are apples and oranges.

I played a good deal of BfW in my time as well.
No too long ago I found out that their RNG is actually fucked. As in flawed.
I didn't quite get the mathemagics behind it but the takeaway is that it is too streaky.

It's still being developed right? Why don't they fix it if that's known?

Any non-biased RNG generator is likely to be subjectively seen as "streaky".
For example, at 50% rolls, you will get streaks of 6 same rolls once per 32 rolls. And you are likely to have two 10% rolls hit (or two 90% rolls miss) in a row once per 100 rolls.

That looks really sweet indeed, Brofist is well deserved.
Reminds me a lot of Bards Tale, which was also the first RPG I ever played. It's strange how most people have forgotten how to make games during the last 25 years.

You should try it before you make up your mind. In many cases it is not an issue. Many people here discover Jagged Alliance years after it was released and still find the UI fantastic.

Indeed. I discovered JA2 only three years ago and was instantly hooked. The UI is great, and decking out your mercs is like a minigame in itself:
