Wouldn't call it shovelware. While its visuals and playstyle is certainly not up to Codex "standards", technically its probably best HoMM/MM related game released by ubisoft. I have never finished it, but I don't remember encountering any bugs or problems in it.

Good point. When I was living in a student dorm most girls who happened to be interested in games would mention HoMM3 as one of their favorites or reason why they like video games in the first place.

I'm one of those people. And it doesn't even take that long in HOMM3, since it's a pretty fast-moving game. Also, delaying the victory can make sense in those campaigns where a number of your best heroes get transferred to the next mission; it's better to have several decent level 12 heroes than just the one or two, accompanied by rank amateurs.

Didn't play much of it so you might be correct in saying that it was technically fine game too. Either way I agree that we shouldn't feel sorry for Clash of heroes developers since I understand their little game was pretty successful.

Clash of Heroes was good for what it is, I'd recommend it to people who enjoy puzzle games and won't get [TRIGGERED] by seeing underage kawaii versions of HoMM5 characters.

Dark Messiah is probably the best game of the Ashan lot, but if I were trapped on a desert island with a nukular gaming rig and an Ubisoft Ashan game, I'd go with Tribes of the East.

HoMM is the only game I play that I've heard teen girls discussing. I couldn't believe my ears when a group of four girls about 15 years old were discussing HoMM on the bus some years ago.

But nothing is more glorious to vanquish your enemies as fast as possible, which also the score reflects.

Oh yeah, men, I used to play HoMM3 with a gf and her sister, but I put their knowledge of the game on the fact that their dad was an IT guy.

Watching streams of HoM&M3 and HoM&M7 beta side by side right now. 7 gameplay looks/feels hilariously bad in comparison. Definitely not interested.

I had a go at the H7 beta - it looks and feels nothing like HoMM3.

Of course it's not the same but it gets closer than anything else that came after HoMM3

I briefly checked into the twitch stream to watch the map editor presentation. First of all I was shocked that it uses Unreal Engine 3. I originally thought they were using UE4, especially with it being in all mouths (Bards Tale 4, Into the Stars, Aquanox 3 etc.) I kinda expected the same from Heroes 7 (guess I was deceived by some initial screenshots). But no... they took the ancient engine. So no C++, no blueprints, no up2date engine.

So when I asked about scripting they said unreal scripting is also not possible (not even in the Advanced Editor Mode which is the ugly Unreal Editor), only kismet at best. Total conversions like in Skyrim are not possible either, but I probably expected too much with that ;)

Basically the editor allows to create maps. The Base Map Editor looks very nice, clean and easy to use. It has most options you need. Modding only works on a per map basis. Whatever changes you make to factions or creatures, only works on this single map and doesn't apply to any other existing maps. So we are stuck with the given system, exception some fan maps who change various settings.
I also asked then if we could exchange the Cumface creature from Dungeon into a Hydra, so that we could create both Hydra+Black Dragon in the same army - and yes - we could. They also assured me these changes would work with both Multiplayer and Savegames (that's a reason why they limited modding on a per map basis). In fact we could create and customise entire new factions out of it. That is at least something noteworthy. However the disadvantage is, that people can now mess up all the creature types and skills after their own liking. So whenever you play a custom map it may not be exactly what you wished for.

There is also the full interview on youtube. More interesting I'd say.

Ahhh.... the death threats to the dev team on the HOMM forums regarding the fiasco of "The Forge" sci-fi faction introduction.
    Those were the days....

They deserved them. Garbage idea they ripped from Wizardry.

A truly codexian idea though. Polluting fantasy with B grade science fiction
