Hooked Gamers have reviewed the latest sign of the decline of the genre, Dungeon Siege II. They thought it was so snazzy it deserved a solid 9/10.
As with Dungeon Siege I, character creation (a part most of you are particularly interested in) is a bit odd compared to other games in the genre. As with any RPG, it is a vital part of the game. You start with the basics, choosing a race and sex and appearance. That’s it, no muss, no fuss.
That's hardly a "vital part of the game" given that the character's sex is purely cosmetic and that races don't make much of a difference either.

That's the fun part about Dungeon Siege 2.. The races might make a big difference at the very, very start of the game BUT the longer you play, the less difference they make. Having a +2 to a skill at the start is a big help, but later on I doubt there'll be much difference between a 22 skill and a 24 skill.

I picked the game up because I was in the mood for a dungeon crawler. One thing I havent seen people make a big fuss over is the bugs. There are several big ones I have run into. One of them makes it so NPCs fail to join the party if you quit out of dialog with them and another makes it so you cant advance if you double click at an inoppurtune time during a certain quest. Apparently, GPG has known about both issues for over a month and has not even bothered to release a hotfix for it (the only patch was for some gamespy networking issue). Also, a quick look at some of the forums reveals that the game is riddled with several bugs (from small things like how dual wield is currently working and bigger ones like unsolvable sidequests and a few showstoppers that make it so you cant advance). Usually, I dont mind bugs much but this is a pretty big deal here considering you only get one save in this game - so going back to an archival save is not always possible.

I understand that the sheer volume of bugs may not be up there with the likes of the stuff Troika put out but the game does feature several show stoppers and I didnt hear anything concerning this from reviewers (though, I admit, I only looked at a couple reviews).

    What's wrong with dual wielding?

About the only bug I've encountered so far is my weapons occasionally becoming unequipped in town for no apparent reason. May have to do with shopping...

Enchantments on one weapon work for both - thereby making it be more effective than it should be.

That's the kind of dual wield bug I can live with. ;)

Ya, like I said, the dual wielding thing is an example of one of the many small bugs the game has. For a short list of some of the gamestopping ones, look here: http://garage.gaspowered.com/?q=node/1607
