How do you name your characters? (women logic included)

So, I've been playing some ol' Might&Magic VI, and God, those fucking caverns never ends. My woman is making a dinner and cleaning sth behind me. She asked me for a hundred time why do I play those ugly, stupid games. I replied that M&M is not stupid and ugly - it's a piece of art. And in 1996 it was probably the most beautiful PC game. And I have started showing her my game. Screenshot included:

Suddenly she saw the names of my party which are (rough translation from Polish):
-Holy Dick
-Fag
-Forest woman (don't ask)
-Fucker
And she went crazy. She just could't believe that I have named my characters so vulgarly. She asked why and my response that I have done it for fun and to better remember who is who in my party only made it worse.
Now she is mad at me.

In b4: retardo || move to gd || cool story bro

So, how do you name your character?
Also, am I retarded?

1. I have few fantasy names i just reuse depending on the characters role. Silly names brake muh immersion.
2. I'm sorry

Anders Breivik, noble fearless Paladin, Inquisitor and party leader for the three occasions where charisma matters in the series. Standard build, aiming to get Carsomyr in BG2 and tank unimaginatively through BG1.

Average Steve the Kensai/Mage. Don't think that needs much explanation.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/jimbob11/anderskru3.jpg

Hatman the Swashbuckler. Primary thieving abilities as well as ranged combat and melee where required. Might dual class him to cleric in BG2, seeing how it goes (old screenshot, recreated him with 17 WIS)

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/jimbob11/anderskru4.jpg

Faggotron McGay the Elven Archer. Ranged combat, aiming to get him the shortbow of Gesen or whatever it's called once BG2 rolls around.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/jimbob11/anderskru1.jpg

Dr Chouffe, the mighty gnome Cleric/Illusionist multiclass. Hoping he'll pack enough of a punch to be my primary healer and buffer.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/jimbob11/anderskru6.jpg

COVERED IN BEES the sorcerer. Nuker. Aiming to get the Robe of Vecna and that amulet and turn him into a magical machine gun.

Despite not being Polish I sometimes name my RPG characters with Polish swearwords myself so you and I are not so different, my friend.

I hate naming my characters, so I usually just use some generic name that fits the setting. If a character is a True Neutral gunslinger, his name is probably Joe or something. If it's a fantasy game, I'll often pick a fitting name (or names) from mythology, a minor god or a Titan or something (Priapus is a fitting name for a spear-user), or just make up some nonsensical name that sounds somewhat good. Muh immersion and all that.

If I'm playing with other people, I'll just go for whatever pops into mind, which might be something along the lines of the OP.

When my kids were little I would make up adventure stories to tell them, and the main character would most often be a hero I named McGuillicuddy Booberstank. He is now typically my lead character in RPGs, and in party-based games I use my kids' names or some offshoot of their names.

I usually have a set few names for certain roles. Like:

Samuel or Siegfried/Rosaline : Warrior/Paladin
Ulric/Morgan: Mage.
Richter/Elizabeth: Thief.
Hector/Hannah: Other Warrior/Barbarian
Ezekiel/Tabitha: Cleric

Otherwise I just make something up that sounds good/distinct. I try to use separate first letters so I can easily tell who is who.

Either I pick some stupid name me or my brothers made up as kids or something from a book or movie. My Underrail character is "Quint" because Jaws was on TV when I started the game.

The main character is always named after myself. If it's a medieval setting I might use Eirikur or Eirikr (Icelandic and Old-Norse versions of Erik). Sometimes I might use the Germans version, Erich. Occasionally I add something at the end to make it sound more fantasy-like. Secondary character names are more varied, but they're always Norse/Germanic as long as that suits the setting.

Sometimes I'll go completely OCD about names, and start researching the etymology and meaning of various names. They must be ethnically and culturally consistent!

Hey, my archers are always gay-named. Cockarrow, Assshooter, Cumbow, etc.

Maybe ur womyn was mad cause she found that she live with troglodyte under the roof?

Usually I grab random book on my shelf, open random page and check if there is something like name. Or nice word that can be turned into name.
I collected some nice one from my UFO Aftershock playthrough.
DavidB, Lynette, Harold, Louie, Mason, Maestro, Edmund, Am Shaegar, Salt Upon Wounds, BradleyJR, Klakier, JCD, PaulD, Axon, Gibson...
That's all from my notes.

I admit that I threat my characters in games like a tool, but that's not enough to use primitive naming like these. Not even the funny one because these one stop being fun after few hours...

If you look up the list of enemies from Wizardry 4, you can see what teenagers named their characters 30 years ago. A lot of them were on save disks they had sent to Sir-Tech to recover. There's a lot of Tolkien, random pop stars of the era, and stuff that sounds like superheroes that didn't make the cut at Marvel or DC (Zman, E-lite, Gor-Y).

But I had made-up names that I thought sounded fantasy-ish, as well as a series of characters based on a fantasy novel that never got written (probably thankfully for the world).

If you're really burdened for names, you can put the vowels (including Y) on a 6-sided die and the consonants on a 20-sided die and roll them up.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
If it's a solo game, I usually just go with Jimmious. It's lore-wise acceptable in almost every situation so I go with it.

If it's a multi-char game, I either use close-friends' nicknames, or some fantasy names from the D&D campaign we had for some years in university

those fucking caverns never ends
Are you talking about the Abandoned Temple? You're a huge faggot then.
How will you clear out the Pyramid and Castle Darkmoor then if the beginner dungeon is "never-ending"?

Hah, i found the flaw in your fairy tale!

1. Mostly a rotation of Pantagruel, Demosthenes, Wittgenstein, Eisenstein.
2. Yes, not because it is rude but because you have no taste
