My understanding of the game is that the early parts of the game is a well done cRPG, but after some fixed point it drops off a cliff into endless combat. Correct? How long before it happens?

I wouldn't call the early-game good. I would call it promising. In that at the start you think "hmm, this could be a pretty good game."

And then it turns to shit.

In my opinion it's not worth clicking the install-button for anything except historical purposes.

Play in Barcelona, then un-install. That's pretty much how you should play Lionheart.

in-install eh? Install more Lionheart into your Lionhearts? :troll:

In all seriousness, never played it, but I'm not missing much am I? Shouldn't even bother to download it right? Is reading an LP a waste of time as well?

Depends. It has unique style: magical post-apoc alternative history. Written by Avellone.
BTW, Sarevok is one guiding spirit, Bastila Shan/Femshep is another guiding spirit, plus a lot of other dudes you most certainly heard here and there.

There was at least one interesting aspect in Lionheart's gameplay : you received XP -up to 75% of the monster's XP value- if you succeeded sneaking past it. If you did, you wouldn't get any XP for killing it afterwards.

As I said, Lionheart in Barcelona makes the game looks promising. It's not worth it to play in my opinion, unless it's purely because you're interested in game-design and want to see some cool ideas. If that's the case, play Barcelona and nothing more.

I thought the combat was even worse than Arcanum's. That alone is indication of how bad it is.

Arcanum's combat had the saving grace of not lasting forever (like Bioware and Bethesda's terrible combat systems do), I'm going to guess Lionheart lasts forever?

The game is shit (an ill-conceived attempt to slap SPECIAL on a truly awful action RPG and sell it as "Fallout Fantasy!(TM)" to the starved Fallout fan who were expected to dry-hump anything with Fallout design elements. The setting had potential, but it was never realized because Reflexive (the maker of premier RPGs) lacked skills, desire, and imagination.

I only played the Barcelona parts, plus a few wilderness areas. It was horribly boring, and it's beyond me as to where the positive Arcanum comparisons come from.

I love how Lionheart isn't mentioned anywhere on the site. Even the developers are ashamed of it, which is telling, since the games that are mentioned on the site have shovelware written all over them.

Play through Barcelona then uninstall this..... Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong and boooooooooooooring dungeons crawlers later on. Intresting setting and decent RPG mechanics but developers wanted to change it into Diablo clone half the way. :smug:

Finished it twice. Contemplated on LP-ing it. Realized I probably quit mid-way. Seriously. There was nothing interesting past Barca.

Not even Barcelona is that good, to be honest. A talky or sneaky character can have some fun doing non-combat quests in the city itself, if that's your thing, but the moment you set your foot outside (or under) Barcelona, you'll be forced to deal with the combat side of the game, which is just not any good. And you'll have to go to the combat areas for a lot of Barcelona quests, including the faction quests.

When I started Lionheart for the first time I was unpleasantly surprised how much it looked like Star Trek: Away Team, especially the character models which looked bad even in 2001. Barcelona itself actually looks good (atleast I remember it looking good) and there was some nice dialogs and quests but nothing mind blowing still it feels like masterpiece compared to the rest of the game.
