Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I got a decent shield emitter, charged it up with batteries, and equipped it... but it doesn't do anything. I have no idea how to activate it. Using it recharges it, so how do I actually activate the thing??

You click the button that Wunderbar highlighted to activate/de-activate it. Shift-clicking it will recharge it with batteries from the inventory until it is fully charged.

You can also toggle its active status with the hotkey, default V I think. It costs no AP to turn it on or off.
