I was just wondering is there anyway you try to clarify yourself
can you bother to type " in my opinion" or " I think" instead of spouting off
absolutes like you wrote the book on role playing
even "I nmy oPinyuhn" or "It Hink" will work fine for those of us that know you
There may be a few new people here who aren't aware that you delude yourself into thinking your shitty fucking opinion is somehow a FACT, and they may be mislead.
Regardless you're definitely NOT a D&D fan, you're a "ROLE PLAYING GAME" fan
    big difference-

Sherriff, you should take your own advice. Of course it's my opinion. Are you really that silly to take it as fact? Uhuh. And, no, I'm very much a D&D fan; but then again in order to be a DnD fan I guess one must play D&D exactly as Sherriff does. Ha. And, last i checked, D&D *is* a role-playing game. To say it isn't is to misread every single D&D source out there.

Spazmo, you are right. I do exaggerate at times. Then again, I'm not the only one on this board to do so. I promise to stop exaggerating when everyone else does too. Deal?

DnD was and is mostly about combat, while anything else that you mentioned is also a part of it, the focus is still on combat. Your imagination can fill in the rest. Also, all the stuff that you mentioned is an important part of any RPG and not DnD-exclusive. DnD represents rules and that's what ToEE gives you and it is like you said the best DnD game to date.

In your opinion. But, DnD is more than just rules. Besdies, there is only one rule that matters. There is only one unchangable rule. D&D is only mostly baout combat if the DM/players make it about combat. Just like any role-playing game. And, no, there's nothing wrong with having combat; but it needs to be more challenging than TOEE's to be worthwhile.

    And, oh, for the daft:

    IT'S ONLY MY OPINION.

Ok, so what's DnD then? According to your ealier definition, it's "chalelnging combat when ther eis combat, interetsing npcs, a good story, meaningful options, well crafted towns, etc.". Same could be said about SPECIAL, Spiderweb system, STEAM, and almost any other rpg system, no? Yet each system is unique and, imo, the uniqness comes from the rules that manage and define every gameplay situation. So, if a person wishes to experience DnD rules in their full glory, ToEE is the game to play. That's what I was saying when I was so rudely interrupted :)

DnD is what you make it. You want to role-play yoru character; great. If you want to hack monsters; great. if you want to be rulers of a kingdom; great. DnD is about playing your character in a straight up fantasy setting. where magic is present and where multipel god s exist and anything elee your imaginatioon can desire. That is all. Bottom line is everyone has their own interpretaion of DnD should be or is for that matter All i ahve to say is Rule 0.

    Rule 0. Rule 0. Rule O.

    Is BG2 DnD?

    Is PST DnD?

    Is IWD DnD?

    Is NWN DnD?

    Is TOEE DnD?

The answer to all of these one sided questions is an obvious yes.

They ALL don't "go by the book" for rules implemtnations which is all good ebcause they ALL follow Rule 0.

    And, for the daft:

    THAT IS ONLY MY OPINION.

    1. I always take my own advice, I asked you to clarify your *opinion* because you always talk in absolutes, no one else that posts here with any regularity does that.

    2. Yes, D&D is a Role Playing Game, but not exclusively..as not all RRG's are D&D games
from the statements you've littered up and down the internet over the last year or so
I would day you promote yourself as Role Playing Game Fan over a D&D fan..
I am just going by your own statements (as I have interpeted them)
and not on how *I* or anyone else plays D&D..

maybe some others would care to chime in on this?

Thanks for that, you come off alot better although not any less annoying.

Uh? What are babbling about? Exactly how am I am not a DND fan, and just a role-playing fan? Because I'm not an anal rules alwyer? Because I don't cum to the mention of Gygax and his low brow "modules"?

I'm very much prefer DnD , for example, over other roel-playing systems because I personally prefer the so called "generic fanasty" that DnD tends to be about. Sorry, insult me all you wnat; but to claim I'm not a DnD fan is ludrcirous.

My collection of DnD books, and my almost 2 decades of playing/DMing DnD tends to prove your stateemnt wrong.

Then again, to you, because I don't see DnD *exactly* like you; I'm not a DnD fan. LOL

As for absolutes, you are the one who talks in absolutes.

And, when did I say all role-playing games were DnD? LMAO Please where did I, for instance, calim that FO is a DnD game? I surely don't recall that.

edit: Please, VD, don't be so anal. You know it's more than just that. Your discription of DnD as simply a rule ssytem is provenw rong by the very existence of Rule O. Rule O stresses very factually that all DnD rules can be changed at the dsicrition of the DM. Period.,

What I know is irrelevant. I asked your definition, if you're in the mood for discussion, answer my question again, because the first answer wasn't...how shall I put it?...thought-through.

So my rogue can have Force Jump, suddenly develop paladin abilities, and pick Slayer perk if the DM agrees? This is so cool, man! Can I play with you and your group next time? My DM sucked!

LOL Unfortunately, as DM, I'd have to inform you the answer is no and stpop being silly. Nice try though. Legitly, that is very much allowed though why would anyone seriously want that?

I'm not trying to be "well thought out". Not gonna play your silly games here. No matter what I state you'll still twist it because the point (lame as it is) your trying to make it is that DnD is only about the rules. Funny thing is I pointed out the one rule which proves that theory wrong. DnD is about that one rule. Rule 0 rules all!

DnD is about role-playing your chaarcter udner a set of guidleines agreed to by the Dma nd their players. However, not everything that follows that guideline is DnD. Capiche?

Start reading what I write, then pause , then think about it, then answer, use quotes
    to illustrate your points-
I don't talk in absolutes, if I have , please point out where- so I can correct it.
I am commenting on how you've presented yourself over the last year or so,
This is how I view you, considering the things you've said...I would bet others agree.

one more time, nice and slow, so you understand...from the things you, Volourn have said I determine that you are more of Role Playing Game *fan* than you are a D&D *fan*
isn't any big deal it just explains your mindset. I am not saying your not a D&D fan at all
but you don't seem to be concerned about the things most D&D fans care about..for example:
Following the fucking rules, to you -story, characters...etc are more important than the specific rule set....well some people are the exact oposite (like myself)..so when you make a bunch of generalizations in a syntax that suggests your opinions are absolutes
you sound like a fucking asshole-
when you clarify yourself that this or that is your opinion and others are welcome to their own..you sound alot more like someone with a brain
Lets see- A) Fucking Asshole, B) Brain, A) Fucking Asshole, B) Brain
Can you handle the multiple choice?

Yeah. 'Cause my opinions are absolute. Yeha, sure they are. I have never seriosuly claimed they were. Perhaps you read too much into it. Heck, everyone here posts like they're postinga bsolutes. And, once again, youa re wrong. I don't say "fuck the rules". In fact, I religiously follow the DnD rules.

Once again: One rule to rule them all, and that rule is rule 0. Perhaps, you are brekaing the spirit of that rule, huh? Not everyone plays DnD like you. deal with it.

I hope that clears up for you. Also, forget about quotes. I'm not gnna use them espicially now. And, sicne when do you speak for most dnd fans. You don't (like I don't) know most DnD fans. Youa ccuse me of generalizing yet that's waht you do.

And, I have no problem beinga "fucking asshole". It allows me to fit in here.

I never said you *claimed* your opinions were absolutes, I said that they way you present yourself in your posts implies your opinions are absolutes.
    Reading Comprehension, GET SOME.
Actually, learn how to fucking write while you're at it, you spit out enough fucking posts everyday day that you ought to have mastered the basics by now!

Oh and you follow the D&D rules relgiously yet champion NWN and chastise ToEE?
I guess that actually makes sense, coming from you :?

Afraid to loose, are you?

I'm not trying to twist anything. I think that DnD is about rules, just like any other system is. You disagree, and now we are having a discussion about it. The fact that you call my arguments silly games tells me that I'm winning

As for the rule 0, what does that prove? What does that explain? It's a guideline not a definition. The rules are what make you play your character a certain way.

Let me rephrase, suppose I'm a noob and never heard of DnD, but I like role-playing and played a few other games. How would you explain me what DnD is all about, so I can understand and differentiate DnD from other rp games in the future?

Sherriff: Sure, I like NWN more than TOEE. However, I don't "chastize" TOEE for its rules impelementation other than to s y it isn't perfect in that regard. In fact, I'm on record a million times, stating quite clearly that its' rules are more accurate than NWN. Your point being what?
And, i do follow the rules religiously 'cause I follow Rule 0; the only rule in D&D matters. And, oh, your God Gygax is one of the ones resposnible for that rule. Argue its existence with him.

VD: 1.Nah. I have no fear. I can't lose this as there is no game being played.

    2. What does it rpove? LOL It proves that the rules themslves are just guidelines. Heck, the creators of DnD say exactly. the 'rules" are just guidelines. Period. If DnD is just about rules then why have the rules changed so much form its beginnings in the 70s to now with 3.5. Aren't all versions equally DnD? Why si that? Simple. The spirit of the game has basically remained the same. Case closed. If you don't like Rule 0; guess what Rule 0 says you can change the rules. see, we all win.

    DnD Rules = Guidelines. Capiche?

    3. Simple. It's real basic how I do this. I ask if they like LOTR. If they say yes I go over the rules - inclduing house rules - and stress Rule 0. if they say no, I say fuck you, and tell them to get lost. LOL No, I just expalin about dragons, fantasy races, the worlds, magic's place in the system, and FINALLY I cover the rules. Like I said, the rules are just guidlines and consdieirng that the rules contradict themslves in so many ways it's kinda hard to define D&D as simply a rules system. It's the spirit of Dnd that matters as well as Rule 0.

    3.

I don't see what you're arguing about, rule zero has existed in one form or anotherr in every PnP game I've played. The rules are an instrument, not the law.

 Weren't you the ones who said something about me playing games

Volourn, think about it for a second. If the rules are merely guidelines, why the need to change them? The fact that there were changed many times tells you that they are not as flexible as you are saying. Simple logic.

    *tries to imagine the conversation

    The Noob: What's DnD?
Volourn: Do you like games with dragons?
    The Noob: Sure am, Mister
Volourn: DnD has dragons, lotsa them
    The Noob: Awesome!
Volourn: And it has races too, orcs, and elves, and dwarves! No other game system has them!
    The Noob: What about Morrowind?
Volourn: Silence, you fool! Who's the uber Dungeon Master here?
    The Noob: *terrified
Volourn: As I was saying DnD has worlds and magic, some worlds have a lot of magic, in fact they have so much they store it in every container, some worlds have less.
    The Noob: Ok
Volourn: And now FINALLY you're ready to learn about the rules. The rules are there are no rules! Muhahaha! *chokes and starts coughing
The Noob: Isn't that line from Fight Club? And how is it different from any other fantasy game I've ever played? You know what? I think you suck!
Volourn: Argggghhh!!! *starts choking the noob* Why, you little....

To get this back on track, I'm running ToEE on my slapped together by my brother in law 800 MHZ Pentium:). Runs pretty good after I set everything to minimum and turned the sound off, though as mentioned before it lags in the bigger battles.Haven't beaten it yet, just got to level two of the main temple. Really hoping I'll be able to afford a computer before I'm stuck being able to only play Spiderweb Software games for the rest of my life(they're fun, but hey, sometimes graphics are nice too).
