Our very own Exitium has posted a review of Black Isle's latest Infinity Engine title, Icewind Dale II.
Here's a bit:

As for the game's design, it has its host of shortcomings, mainly stemming from the Infinity Engine and several issues with the multiplayer game when played over the Internet, though a LAN experience with a close knit group of friends and family should prove somewhat enjoyable if you can tolerate the time it takes to situate team tactics. All in all, multiplayer could have used a bit more effort, considering the fact that Icewind Dale II touts itself as a party-based game.

Very good review but what about stars or mark's or rating.

I know that ratings are totally pointless ecxept that other people seem to liike them a lot.

What about a system of 1-5 stars with 1 and 5 almost never given ?

We might implement those later but for the most part, ratings in most magazines don't mean squat. You can read most reviews and find out how much the writer hates the game and still allows it to garner a hefty 87% score, or they can brag about the game entirely and give it a pathetic little 60% because everybody else is doing it.

I don't think that I could give IWD2 a score anyhow, since the scores in ratings are almost always entirely subjective. If you created a score based on the amount of good versus bad things I said about the game, it'd give IWD2 an unfair number, either way it goes. I for one don't think that the game deserves a low score like 60% but nor do I believe it should receive a 90% just because I like it.

I think you can pretty much sum it up for yourself about whether you should buy the game based on reading the full review rather than looking at the score. I mean, who knows, you might be one of those people who absolutely loves D&D fantasy games and doesn't care about anything else, or you could be one of those people who doesn't have the patience for pathfinding issues, despite everything else. It'd be best if people didn't assume that a game was 'completely perfect' based on an 87% score or something. Who knows, the other 13% might be related to something that they absolutely can't stand.

Take a game like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. It gets 90% reviews everywhere, but you shouldn't buy it just because it gets a high score. After all, you might not like that sort of game.
