The only reason I got a Wii is because I wanted to play all the Resident Evil games (REmake, 2, 0 and 4) without getting a Gamecube, and I heard the Wii version of 4 was good (and it is). My mum likes to play on all the gimmicky motion control things when she's round. I don't know why an actual gamer would get the Wii U.

It is very strange, one would think after ps3 debacle they would get their shit together.
Original PSP was a hit though, dont know why they changed the formula.

The current generation of handhelds is pretty underwhelming overall though.

$500-$600 console that doesn't even offer blu-ray. Hell, it won't even play DVDs either. Next NEXT-gen, baby.

At least consoles like PS3 can double as movie players/streaming devices.

The price is not the main problem. It needs more good games. I bought a Vita day one and have some very good games on it. Rayman, Virtua Tennis, Gravity Rush etc, but it needs much more. And since it is expensive, it needs killer apps. And it is lacking in that regard.

It's all I use my PS3 for. I also use it for the Uncharted games, but that's it. I use my PS3 every day and it is for Blu-rays and DVDs.

Sell the PS3 then and buy a better Blu-Ray drive for your PC.

My PC is noisy as hell with a monitor that is great for playing games but shit for watching movies (something to do with contrast ratio and viewing angles). But with my PS3 I can sit with it hooked up to an HD TV and things look great.

Edgy. I'm a film buff, not someone who watches films once then never again.

I have no problem re-watching movies from the hard drive of my htpc or streaming from Amazon.

Typical midnight launch purchasers: Niggers and brownies, aka the underachievers.

Reggie must think "God you are all stupid shits, but thanks for your money anyways".

I watch both blu-rays and streaming video, no reason not to do both. You're forgetting blu-rays come packed with extras, and there is lots of stuff that isn't on Amazon or Netflix/Hulu. Plus you're assured the best quality and surround sound which you won't always find with streaming services for every release.

PS3 also has some decent exclusives, not the worst console out there. Motorstorm series is fun as hell online, plus Gran Turismo (its no GTR but whatever). Oh and I do still listen to CD's when not stealing borrowing mp3's and flacs. I also still have a VCR and an Atari 2600 for that matter.

Amazon/Netflix/Hulu may have a limited library of streaming content, but you can usually purchase digital copies with all the extras and whatnot from Amazon, iTunes, etc. If, for whatever reason, there isn't a version of your favorite movie on a modern format, then fuck 'em! They obviously don't want your money. You can probably find it from "alternative" sources.

As vinysl take too much space and are expensive to post, I'll probably die before I'll stop using mostly cds for music. I want to hold the release, occasionally flip through the booklet, not have some faggot mp3s on my hard drive.

I bought a Wii. Most of the games I got for it were pretty disappointing. My favorite game for it was Castlevania ReBirth, which was a remake released in the Wii Shop. But oh man was it good. I ended up using it mostly for emulation, and got exposed to some of the best shmups I ever played (Lord of Thunder, Gate of Thunder etc.) Otherwise all the physical releases were pretty damn lame. No More Heroes was probably one of the few decent ones that I enjoyed.
Anyway, my point is that no way in shit am I buying a WiiU. I got the Wii and I ended up mostly playing old games for it. Pointless to buy new hardware if I'm just gonna keep on playing the same 80's and 90's releases I've always been playing. Plus the controller looks kinda gay.

Same here got a wii and its taking dust, theres not many good games let alone great games who made a real use of the wiiimotes, outside the big nintendo blockbusters and they werent so many , we only got one real zelda for it, the first one was originally for the gamecube. Last game i bought on it , was xenoblade, and you had to use a classic controller on it. Now if i get one offered i wont spit on it, but that seems way too expensive for now.

    wii-u is a dad's console

if you are a single dude who thinks "hmm why tip 20% when i could buy another beer", i can see why bother

but if you are an ex-gamer dad w/younger kids, computers, xbox and ps3 aren't the answer. in fact, they are awful.

the third wheel gamerpad is brilliant.

So far the only answer to that is Bayonetta 2.
Of course let's see if it's going to be any good first; it's not directed by the DMC/Bayonetta/God Hand/Okami wizkid.

Then again, maybe a better answer is "because a gamer would want to be able to play any game that interests him, regardless of console".

That said, console-exclusives may well become a thing of the past sooner or later, mitigating this aspect.

Edit: With what I've been reading about Wii U ports and the processor Bayonetta 2 is going to run at 10 frames per second. You can't play a twitchy action game at that frame-rate.

I rather expect Reggie making a hilarious monkey-dance on-stage before Nintendo is gonna create their IPs for other systems.

Unfortunately Nintendo-exclusives haven't really been anything special for a while now.

There were precious few decent Wii-only games.
