I just want to do headshot and see trash fall off. Cuz you know, they are fucking trash. They are weak but can quickly swarm you with their big numbers and hinder you from killing real deals like Scrake and Fleshpounds. Now everyone is a monster and resistant to everything. Gorefasts slash you into pieces. Sirens with their super tankines and teleportation fuck you from behind. Stalkers jump, dodge and kick you into the nuts while you wonder why the fuck shotgun (a close to medium range combat weapon) does not do shit to a trash like stalker. I have gone from "please be good tripwire, I will stay here with you no matter what" to "I hope you fucking hacks crash and burn"

Yeah, and it never runs out of juice. At first it used to work like it did in KF1, I have no idea why or when they changed it, but that's Zingawire for you.

I've gone back since the SWAT update. Bearing in mind I haven't touched the game in over a year it seems to be in a pretty good state now. Highlights include:
  • Zed teleporting finally appears to be dead. I've managed to outmanoeuvre large groups several times and not found them waiting around the next corner! Best way to demonstrate this is close to the end of a wave when there are no new spawns on the map.
  • The last Zeds in a wave going berserk thing now only seems to apply to trash mobs. No more autoraging those 2 scrakes you'd saved till the end of the wave.
  • Sharpshooter is back and makes pub play viable again. Game was desperately in need of a clean, consistent and reliable method of scrake management. Crossbow's still a bit buggy.
  • Demo is no longer shit and is once again the premier anti-FP perk.
  • Patriarch is back and Hans is now more interesting to fight.
  • You can disable autorotation on clot grab!
  • Supports can now fix broken doors meaning area holding is once again a valid tactic with the right team.
There are also some other quality of life changes with the perks e.g. all supports/demos can supply ammo/grenades respectively as a standard ability. A few annoyances remain (sadly the Zedconomy appears to be here to stay) but hats off to Tripwire, things have been significantly improved overall.

It's been released today if anyone still gives a shit. In spite of my earlier positivity there are major outstanding issues that need fixing:
  • It lacks weapon variety within perk trees.
  • Firebug is useless and the flamethrower and fire damage are still shit compared to the KF1 implementation.
  • Survivalist is blatantly lazy design by Tripwire - they've made a new "perk" that conveniently requires no new weapons or other assets and uses mechanics already implemented by other classes. There is no point in having a perk that performs multiple roles (badly) in a game that's ostensibly designed around teamplay between specialist classes - it is directly contradictory.
At least Tripwire can't hide behind the "but it's in Early Access you guys" excuses anymore. Hopefully it'll get to where it needs to be post release.

N.B. Most pub players are still cretins. You will end up playing field medic because no one else will. Otherwise the whole team dies by round 5.

You could carry teams with the medic in KF1. I thought that was pretty fun since one could theoretically "heal from the hip" once you got used to the aim.

KF2 seems like it has a ton of issues. Surprised to see it out of EA. Is the performance any better?

RO2 is one of my favorite games but this is so true. The screen is just a hodgepodge of text and other crap you learn to ignore.

It isn't a criticism of playing medic, it's more that most pub players don't appear to understand basic KF meta anymore to the point a lot of potentially viable pub team compositions other than zerk/medic combo chaos are frustrating to keep afloat. As an example 'classic' sharpshooter style is very difficult to run as most of the eejits you're playing with can't be trusted to keep the trash off you while you line up that scrake for a headshot. It gets very boring always being the guy running around spamming healing darts at that fucking commando who magdumps every god-damn time he sees an FP.

The whole EA period has been a bizarre carousel of Tripwire failing to understand what made KF1 good, actively taking steps to change things for the worse in KF2 and then resorting to more KF1-like mechanics when everyone who isn't a shill complains. Hence features like zed-teleporting, unrepairable doors past a certain damage threshold, auto rotate on clot grab, zed resistances etc. have all been and have either gone or become optional due to community feedback. Performance has never been a problem even on my old clunker of a PC mind.

Red Orchestra Vietnam is coming out though. It was a mod from the start though, think they took over or just brought in the mod-makers.

Apparently you can refund the game right now regardless of how many hours you have clocked in. I'm trying it now. I've only sunk ~30 hours into the EA and the game isn't really that fun to warrant a purchase. Game is starved for content and I can use the shekels for something that's actually fun. Will update my message to confirm if I get a refund or not.

Edit: Got my refund.

Out of interest, why? I've seen the /v/ hivemind refund this too for days now.
They fucked up Early Access bad, especially with the "Done right™" claim. They didn't listen to player feedback. They updated way too slowly (game released a year later than they promised), and treated every update like they're bonuses to a finished game. Everyone's gone through the current content a million times. There's microtransactions. And so on.

I get that. I'm frustrated with that stuff too, but it's not like I'm never going back to the game.
And that's every game now, microtransactions and shit EA. But KF2 pretty much works finally. It's missing maps and guns, yeah, but I can't imagine it taking another 2 years for that.

And that's the reason why I took a refund. It's highly doubtful that I ever will get bother to get back to the game. 30 hours in and I'm pretty much done with it and for a game like this, that's not very good. For me it's just not a fun game like KF1 was. If it ever does get better then I can buy it again at a discount price. If not, well, at least those hacks don't have my money anymore.

I sent in a request for a refund as well. I didn't have much fun with it in early access, so I probably won't play it for a long time. If I get it again, it will be in a sale, and hopefully by that point they won't have gone full Payday 2 with it.

Can you refund if you haven't played since early access?
That's what I just did. $29.99 pending in my Steam wallet.

I'm not sure but I may have paid a sale price for it tbh...
