I'd rather give money to GoG than indie developers :smug:

This looks excellent. Very reminiscent of Eye of the Beholder. I'm glad GoG is expanding to include new indie titles.

Looks like they deleted all the "reviews" and disabled them until release after all.

82% ? That's either major nostalgia or the game is really good.
After all, it's unlikely that they have enough money to bribe major gaming journals (even if they are only major german journals)...

It's surprising how team of 4 people can do such high quality game in an hour. Now need to actualy see if fights/puzzles are done right.

They say the game was surprisingly challenging at times but in the end they finished it without checking the walkthrough... coming from next-gen journalists that's not exactly reassuring of the game's difficulty.

"Kämpfe erfordern kaum Taktik, allerdings müsst ihr den teils übermächtigen Monsterattacken oft ausweichen".

fights require little tactic, but sometimes you have the all-powerful monster attacks often avoid. Only here a little skill is required.

Kinda worried. If its too easy or even worse - kingdom-of-amalur kind of easy (left-clicking is enough to win thru anything) - then this will destroy the game.

I am playing Crystal dragon (old-school crpg from Amiga) now.
Some monsters have high dexterity and speed, so they attack faster then your party, so when you face and click, they already made attack.

I mean "circling" can be avoided by game designers. One of example is above.

How many people have played Crystal Dragon? Very few I would wager...it came out when the Amiga was in the coffin for viewing. Most people would probably have skipped over to PC by then.

But still good game, i have also Black crypt in reserve, but when finish both - need advise on decent looking dungeon explorer game like DM, Stonekeep or Anvil of dawn (etc.).

Anyway its just and example that this exploit "sidestep-attack-sidestep" can be avoided.
There are other options one can think.

Let's wait and see, hopefuly they done something to avoid this strategy. Despite what journalists claim.

Hey, I still had an Amiga in '94. But CD never appealed to me. Looked pretty cheap, and only 2 characters? I rather replay Black Crypt for the 10th time.

if you spend some time searching for secrets, you should be busy for at least 15 hours

    combat is not particularly tactical

10-15 hours for a 12 dollar game. Not bad. I like their efficiency: short development time, modest length, modest price. They seem they are doing the starting from the bottom bit right, not getting ahead of themselves and working within their means.

Tactical combat is pretty hard in a RT crawler, unless you have a pause option to be able to pick tactics from a list before unpausing. Haven't really played all that many RT blobbers but from my experience it was mostly equip a weapon or spell and whack the beastie until it died, moving from side to side or back as needed.

I hope that they are treating the game as kind of a tech demo for the engine though as well. With a bit of tweaking and some tactical options it would make a great TB crawler like M&M.

The lack of TB combat is really regrettable. I would have been 10x more excited if they had gone that route.

Me too. Still I wonder if it was as much a marketing decision as anything else. Even looking as good as it does it wouldn't garner as much interest in the mainstream if it carried the moniker 'turn based' which immediately conjures up 'gee that's fucking boring sounding' from the popamole 'reporters' on various portals. Sure, once they looked past the still graphics they would have seen that the movement is still 'step' based which is a far cry from 'next gen' but by then they did their job in creating awareness of the game with it's REAL TIME AWESUM GRAFIKS!

Maybe if the Codex gets behind this and spams their forums with 'we want a TB version for this or the next game with more tactical options', we'd be heard.

I think it was because they wanted to stay true to the originals (Dungeon Master).

To add more to the confusion, that "step based" thing puts me off too. I would have preferred turn based combat but with a normal camera/movement, like in Wizardry 8.

In that type of games the biggest difference between TB and RT is probably that you can take more time during your turn in TB, but you probably have a pause button.
Honestly, I doubt it would have played much different in TB.
